Perform a variety of duties to assist in the retrieval and removal of railroad track material. Main function is driving and operating heavy equipment on and off railroad property. Works closely with the Operations Superintendent and subcontractors and does not have any supervisory responsibilities. Proficiently operate a boom truck (a truck with hydraulic knuckle-boom crane attached) Drives grapple trucks and operates the loader picking up, stockpiling, and loading scrap ties onto truck and then into railcars Segregates railroad materials using boom Responsible for keeping up with daily tie inventory and working limits Completes required paperwork Must be able to take direction from immediate supervisor and implement plans accordingly Learn and follow safety regulations (Company, FRA, DOT, and OSHA) Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects to repairs to supervisor Communicates in a professional manner by phone and in person with all levels of internal personnel and business contacts Candidate Qualifications/ Requirements Must have a GED or high school diploma. Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (Class A or B) Provide a Medical Examination Certificate Must be 18 years of age or older (21 years of age or older preferred for ability to drive Multi state with CDL) Pass pre-employment drug screen and have acceptable Motor Vehicle Report, and Criminal Background Check Railroad regulations mandate no felonies in the last 7 years Ability to travel 100% Ability to work 21 days straight Intermediate tablet/smart phone skills Basic math skills (addition, subtractions) Experience working in small teams Knowledge of or experience in grapple, boom, and log loader operations Mechanical knowledge Ability to fill out daily electronic logs Preferred: Railroad experience Experience with extensive travel for work Koppers Inc. and its subsidiaries are equal opportunity employers.
