Description

Job Summary:

Southland Steel is seeking a reliable and skilled Maintenance Electrician to maintain and repair the electrical systems, machinery, and infrastructure in our fabrication shop. This role plays a vital part in keeping our welding, cutting, and forming equipment operating efficiently and safely, minimizing downtime and supporting continuous production.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform electrical maintenance on shop equipment such as welders (MIG/TIG), plasma cutters, CNC machines, shears, press brakes, and grinders.

Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues related to motors, control panels, power supplies, and circuit breakers.

Install new electrical systems and wiring for shop expansions or equipment upgrades.

Maintain and troubleshoot lighting systems, power distribution panels, and emergency backup systems.

Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.

Support production team by responding promptly to breakdowns and maintenance requests.

Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to reduce unplanned equipment failures.

Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety standards (NFPA 70E), and OSHA regulations.

Document all maintenance activities in the CMMS and assist in maintaining accurate maintenance records.

Coordinate with external contractors for larger electrical projects as needed.

Requirements:

High school diploma or GED required; technical training or certification in electrical systems preferred.

Valid electrician's license or certification, depending on local regulations.

Minimum 3 years of experience as an electrician, ideally in a metal fabrication or industrial environment.

Familiarity with shop-specific electrical systems, including high-voltage machinery, welding circuits, and industrial power tools.

Strong troubleshooting skills and knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple maintenance tasks simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with CNC machine electrical systems and controls.

Basic mechanical maintenance knowledge (e.g., hydraulics, pneumatics).

Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.

Comfortable working in noisy, dusty, or hot environments.

Able to climb ladders, crouch, bend, and work in tight spaces when necessary.

Work Schedule:

Full-time; may include early mornings, late shifts, or occasional weekend work to support shop operations.
