Job Summary:

The Journeyman Concrete Finisher is responsible for performing a wide range of skilled concrete finishing duties on construction projects. This role includes placing, finishing, protecting, and repairing concrete surfaces for sidewalks, driveways, roads, curbs, floors, and foundations. The position requires a high degree of craftsmanship, the ability to read construction drawings, and adherence to safety protocols on active job sites.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Set concrete forms and ensure proper alignment, depth, and pitch.
  • Pour, level, and smooth concrete using rakes, screeds, and trowels.
  • Apply curing compounds, waterproofing, and surface hardeners.
  • Use hand and power tools such as floats, troweling machines, and edgers to achieve the desired finish.
  • Create decorative textures, patterns, or colors as required (e.g., broom, exposed aggregate, stamped).
  • Cut joints into concrete to help control cracking.
  • Repair damaged concrete surfaces and perform patchwork.
  • Interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine material and layout requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment and comply with all OSHA safety guidelines.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in using finishing tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality control.
  • Ability to interpret and follow technical plans and specifications.
  • Must be able to read and communicate in English to understand technical documents, safety procedures, and instructions relevant to job duties. English proficiency is required due to operational and safety communication needs.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in concrete finishing.
  • Journeyman certification or equivalent work experience strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and procedures.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand, kneel, and walk for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift 50-75 pounds regularly.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of conditions, including extreme heat, cold, wind, and rain.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights and on uneven terrain.
  • Requires manual dexterity and strength to use tools and materials.
