Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator

Work Year: Temporary June - August 2025

SUMMARY: Perform duties and operate heavy equipment related to the maintenance, repair, preparation and installation of grounds, parking lots, athletic fields, tennis courts, sumps, pump houses and water/sewer breaks. Survey, engineer and establish grade configurations and lay out sites.

Job Responsibility Descriptions

Responsible for operating heavy equipment to include backhoe, motor grader, bulldozer and other rented equipment required to complete a job.

Survey, engineer and establish grade configurations and lay out sites using transit, level and grade rods. Set grade stakes, calculate fill, cut slopes and determine compaction requirements for projects.

Work with other departments to prepare construction areas.

Estimate amounts and types of materials needed for projects.

Patch asphalt, perform overlay work and seal cracks.

Perform irrigation work including the repair and maintenance of sumps and pump houses.

Coordinate and communicate with supervisor regarding projects.

Implement job tasks for assigned crew members.

Responsible for troubleshooting and installation of storm drains and waste water drains.

Perform other duties as assigned within the grounds department

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent, preference given for specialized courses in civil and operator's engineering.

Minimum of two years' experience in construction, utilities, transportation industries required;

Preference given for prior School District experience.

*Acceptable education and experience equivalent will be at the sole discretion of the District

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:

Criminal background check required for hire;

50# Lift test required for hire with renewal every 3 years.

District approved lift test required at time of hire (50 Pounds); recertification every 3 years;

Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Attend and successfully complete all staff development training as required by state law or as directed by the Director.

TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

Legal Knowledge - Employee must possess a working understanding of, promote and enact several federal, state, and District policies, standards, procedures, regarding environmental compliance regulations.:

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:

Operating knowledge of bucket truck operations preferred; required at hire,

Operating knowledge of scissor and fork lift preferred; required within 6 months after hire

Knowledge of surveying, engineering, grade configuration and maintenance, preparation and replacement of asphalt.

Operating knowledge of an experience with all types of heavy equipment including; backhoe, motor grader and bulldozer.

Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, etc.

Operating knowledge of and experience with office software to include Email, word processing and spreadsheets.

District approved uniform and equipment is required.
