Construction Coordinator/Trainer Bridge to Construction Program

SUMMARY

Portland YouthBuilders (PYB) is a nonprofit vocational alternative high school and pre apprenticeship program dedicated to serving young adults ages 1726. PYB's mission is to help disadvantaged young people transform their lives through education, training, and the development of viable career pathways. PYB's state certified pre apprenticeship construction training is offered through two programs: a yearlong YouthBuild program, which offers high school completion along with vocational training; and the 9week Bridge to Construction program offering pre apprenticeship training for high school graduates.

PYB is deeply committed to continuously working to make our organization a more equitable and just place for both students and staff. As it is written in our At PYB, we believe that communities are strengthened when diversity is honored. We believe we have a responsibility to interrupt and confront inequity. At PYB, we commit to continuously reflect and challenge the ways in which we, as a community, and as individuals, perpetuate inequity. It is not only vital to our students' success but essential to our purpose.

The Construction Coordinator/Trainer will supervise construction projects and instruct crews of Bridge students in the new construction and remodeling of affordable housing. The Construction Coordinator/Trainer is responsible for daily oversight, organization, safety and quality control of work performed on assigned projects near our Multnomah County and/or Washington County locations. They work in partnership with other construction staff to plan daily crew assignments, plan project schedules, and share teaching responsibilities. They will also work on case management teams with career advocates in a collaborative effort to help students develop personal skills and overcome barriers as they strive to define and prepare to achieve their career goals. The Coordinator/Trainer may also work with PYB's nonprofit community partners to secure construction projects on which PYB Bridge students will receive training and provide volunteer labor.

The ideal candidate will be committed to our mission and equity statement, and will be inspired by working with young people from diverse backgrounds as they transform their lives through hands on learning.
