Start Date: July 21, 2025 End Date: June 5, 2026
s to: Technical Director and Associate Technical Director
Work Schedule: Primarily Mondaythrough Friday 8:00am-4:30pm. Some weekends and evenings may be required.
Cleveland Play House is seeking a Carpenter (IATSE) to join the production team and build our mainstage season, New Ground Theater Festival and the Case Western Reserve University MFA program productions. Must be willing to join IATSE Local 27
Position Summary:
The Carpenter is responsible for the construction, installation, maintenance, and strike of scenic elements for productions at CPH. Working under the supervision of the Technical Director and in collaboration with the scenic team, the Carpenter ensures that all sets are built safely, efficiently, and in accordance with design specifications and production schedules.
Responsibilities:
Build scenic elements from technical drawings, including wood, metal, and mixed- media construction to meet the design intent with high quality and detail
Install, rig, and strike scenery on stage and in rehearsal spaces
Maintain a clean, safe, andanized scene shop and workspace
Collaborate with other departments (props, electrics, paint, stage management) during load-in, technical rehearsals, and performances
Support repair and maintenance of existing scenic elements during the run of a show
Safely operate and maintain shop tools and equipment (saws, welders, lifts, etc.)
Always ad to safety standards andanizational policies
Perform other duties as assigned by the Technical Director
Maintain a safe and healthy work environment, and uphold the policies and procedures outlined in the Cleveland Play House Handbook
Attend and participate in all assigned staff training sessions, department meetings, show specific trainings and potentialmittee groups within theanization.
Follow all health and safety guidelines established by the theatre; report any unsafe conditions or practices to your supervisor immediately
Qualifications:
Prior experience in scenic construction for theater or live performance
Proficiency in reading and interpreting scenic and technical drawings
Working knowledge of construction techniques and materials (wood, metal, rigging, hardware)
Familiarity with shop and stage tools and equipment, including power tools and welding
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Commitment to workplace safety and respectfulmunication
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work at heights/on ladders when necessary
Flexible schedule with availability for evenings, weekends, and some holidays during tech and production periods
Preferred:
Welding certification or experience
Experience with automation, rigging systems, or CNC machines
Valid driver's license

6 paid-time off day, up to 7pany holidays, and 2 discretionary holidays
