Hood Container Corporation (HCC) is seeking a dynamic leader and change agent to join our team as a Safety Manager for our Louisville, KY, Packaging Services plant. The Safety Manager is responsible for managing aspects of Hood Container Corporation’s Safety and Environmental programs and will be responsible for maintaining the high standards of conduct set forth by the Company and staying current on all new OSHA regulations for 4 plants in the Kentucky/Indian area.
A Day in the life:
Will manage the safety programs such as safety training workshops and safety meetings for 4 plants to include:
- Review safety data and statistics to identify potential hazards or safety concerns in the workplace environment.
- Oversees investigations of workplace accidents and incidents for each plant
- Ensures that all employees are aware of and understand their responsibilities regarding safety in the workplace.
- Evaluate health and safety practices and procedures for risk assessment and compliance with legal guidelines.
- Conduct accident prevention training and health and safety training when necessary.
- Assists in developing and implementing safety policies and procedures for the company, including best practices for reducing workplace hazards.
- Educates employees about safety issues through topics such as hazard recognition, first aid and CPR training, etc.
8.Monitors the performance of safety coordinators and safety site leads to ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures
- Creates training materials and programs to help workers identify and avoid hazards in their jobs, as well as provide first aid and other emergency care in the event of an accident or injury when needed.
- Inspect equipment for unsafe working conditions.
- Maintain and update SDS books and Haz-Com programs and ensure all Safety staff are made aware of the changes and are following guidelines.
- Ensures all PS sites have performed safety training.
- Plan and execute monthly safety committee meetings.
- Reviews monthly site scorecards and follows up with action plan.
- Maintain current certifications, as well as obtaining all necessary certifications for employees. (Including: Forklift, First Aid, CPR) OSHA 30 is preferred.
- Ensures internal site audits are being conducted and documented. (OSHA 1910)
- Annual review of the site Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
- Ensures that sites are conducting annual drills (Fire and Shelter-in-Place)
- Oversees the Safety Shoe Truck and Prescription Safety Glasses program.
- Review JSA’s and update as necessary.
- Prepare site leadership for customer audits.
- Work effectively with other department managers to enhance the safety program.
- Perform self-assessments to identify and mitigate risk .
- Ensures new hire safety orientation is being performed and documented.
- Ensures contractor safety orientation is being performed and documented.
- Reviews PPE vendors to ensure pricing is competitive.
- Review, monitor, and manage the Worker’s Compensation claim process. This includes managing the early return to work and modified duty program, monitoring, and analyzing accident and injury trends, and performing hazard analysis.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Education and/or Experience – Bachelor’s degree in safety , health, risk management, or related field; or a combination of education and/or 5 years’ experience in the safety industry
- Language Skills – Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Mathematical Skills – Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure. Ability to use a tape measure and other measuring devices.
- Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Capable of seeing the big picture.
- Computer Skills – Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
- Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills .
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Lockout/Tag Out (LOTO), and SDS and HazCom
- Auditing Experience
