We are seeking applicants for an Environmental Assistant Superintendent in our International Falls, MN Paper Mill. The International Falls facility is a White Paper Mill owned by Packaging Corporation of America.
The Assistant Superintendent of Power/Recovery has total performance and results responsibility of all environmental operations. This includes the wastewater, solid waste and air. The position is responsible for supporting the overall performance of the operation in terms of safety, environmental, quality, costs, production, and staffing.
Principle Accountabilities:
- Interface with regulatory agencies such as Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as needed on compliance and/or enforcement issues.
- Ensure that waste streams in the mill are properly disposed of and all permit conditions are being met mill-wide.
- Management of all safety policies within the department which include the adherence to and enforcement of mill safety rules, procedures, personal protective equipment, and OSHA compliance. Individual is responsible for creating a safe work environment for their employees.
- Set standards and expectations around housekeeping in the department. Monitor, follow-up and report performance.
- Develop plans for targets and objectives identified for continuous improvement efforts.
- Set expectations for quality standards and provide necessary resources to maintain stable and capable quality performance.
- Monitor production performance daily. Make system changes to meet needs of customers and financial results. Plan and schedule resources for department needs. Follow-up on all equipment and resource issues. Manage development and training needs for department personnel.
- Interface with maintenance planners and supervisors for daily, repair day and outage planning.
- Works with the operators and engineers to ensure assets are meeting or exceeding productivity targets at lowest possible cost.
- Position works with maintenance on equipment modification needs and capital engineering to justify and execute capital projects in the area.
- Position responsible to set repair day and annual outage scopes and schedule for the process areas.
- Responsible to develop operating personnel in the environmental area to improve their contribution through training and employee involvement.
- Responsible for the creation and periodic review of SOP’s and system lockouts for the process areas assigned.
Qualifications:
BS degree in an engineering or Science field.
Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a packaging or other manufacturing environment.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to network and build relationships with individuals of various experience and corporate levels both within and outside of the company.
- Solid working knowledge of PC applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple requests simultaneously.
- Strong listening, evaluating, and problem-solving skills. Ability to create alternative solutions and meet deadlines.
- Strong leadership skills and experience leading a team, or a strong understanding of the importance of open communication and information sharing among co-workers.
