Purpose of Position

The Supervisor, Supplier Quality leads a team of Supplier Quality Engineers to ensure that all materials and products sourced from outside suppliers meet Veeder-Root’s standards and industry codes. This role involves qualifying suppliers, inspecting products at the source, reviewing design manufacturability, working closely with suppliers and internal teams, verifying item availability, and handling nonconforming materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Supplier Quality Engineering team to solve material quality problems and improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Set clear goals and performance expectations for team members, including regular weekly and quarterly meetings.
  • Organize and lead continuous improvement activities (kaizens) focused on enhancing quality, delivery, and productivity at supplier sites and Veeder-Root facilities.
  • Conduct manufacturing process audits at supplier locations; issue and track non-conformance reports; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Review and approve product submission packages such as PPAP and FAI, ensuring improvement plans are in place.
  • Handle customer complaints related to raw materials, ensuring timely root cause analysis and corrective actions are communicated and implemented.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with both customers and suppliers.
  • Continuously assess materials, processes, and systems to confirm capability and consistency.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain and Operations teams to drive ongoing improvements in raw material quality and process stability.
  • Track and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) for the team year over year.
  • Support procurement in selecting, developing, and assessing the risk of suppliers.
  • Plan and lead supplier quality and manufacturing audits.
  • Develop programs aimed at improving supplier quality.
  • Create and implement a unified strategy for the Supplier Quality team aligned with company goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Strategic Sourcing Leader.

Background and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Quality, or related field preferred) with at least 3 years of manufacturing experience.
  • Clear and simple communication of complex technical issues; strong interpersonal skills and teamwork.
  • Solid understanding of statistical process control and process capability analysis.
  • Experience reviewing and approving product submission packages (PPAP, ISIR, FAI).
  • Skilled at identifying true root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical skills, and dedication to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to coach and lead individuals and teams effectively.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, different shifts, and travel on short notice.
  • Able to work independently without close supervision.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Access).
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Familiarity with quality tools and metrics.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) certification is a plus.
