ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Follow all Hanwha Philly Shipyard rules and regulations
  • Safely and proficiently operate cranes and transportation equipment for movements of materials, sections and grand blocks
  • Operating Yard equipment (but not all inclusive)
  • Mobil Cranes () (15mt to 120mt)
  • AT cranes (100mt to 350mt)
  • Gantry cranes (Level luffing and heavy lift)
  • Portal cranes
  • Overhead bridge and magnet cranes
  • SISU transporter Trans lifter system
  • Kirow (lower weight units) Ship mover system
  • Basic rigging
  • High reach
  • Scissor lift
  • Forklifts (light and heavy)
  • Others as describe by supervision and/ or purchase for project specific
  • Must maintain valid PSI/OSHA Certifications
  • Must report deficiencies in equipment
  • Safely and efficiently perform assignments as instructed by management/supervisor on all yard operations
  • Selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, shackles, clamping devices, blocks, synthetic slings and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved
  • Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms with bolts and clamps
  • Attaches load with grappling devices such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains to crane hook
  • Gives directions to Overhead Crane Operator/Riggers or Hoisting Engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and material handled
  • Sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment
  • Use proper hand signals to signal crane operator/riggers and radio communication with crane operator/riggers
  • Visually inspect all rigging gear such as wire rope, shackles synthetic slings, chain hoist, come-along, hooks, and all other rigging gear to ensure that safety is always first
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPEREIENCE

  • Minimum High School or GED Diploma
  • 1 to 3 years' experience with large capacity cranes and heavy transportation equipment
  • Minimum 3 years structural steel rigging or erecting
  • NCCO (National Certification of Crane Operators) license preferred
  • Experience in shipyards, heavy construction, heavy fabrication, waterfront port equipment
  • Detailed knowledge of industry standards for crane hand signals, verbal protocol, crane alarms and collision systems
  • Detailed and working knowledge of LMI (load moment indicator) and load charts
  • Yard map and signage
  • TWIC Card (preferred)
  • Ability to lead and instruct activities as described by supervision
  • Detailed and comprehension knowledge of the following:
  • Equipment capacities and capabilities
  • Operating procedures including:
  • Pre-operational checks
  • OEM manuals
  • Basic maintenance of equipment
  • Limitations of all equipment (such as capacities and warning systems)
  • Yard nomenclature
  • Must maintain valid PSI / OSHA certifications
  • Fundamentals of rigging, basic working knowledge of crane and rigging gear
  • High Reach Forklift experience
  • Knowledge of tying knots
  • Knowledge of proper hand signals to signal crane operator/riggers and radio communication with crane operator/riggers
  • Knowledge of how to visually inspect all rigging gear such as wire rope, shackles synthetic slings, chain hoist, come-along, hooks, and all other rigging gear to ensure that safety is always first
  • Must have knowledge of various size wire ropes' breaking strengths
  • Some training may be available to keep educated on new OSHA or other safety guidelines and new industry developments

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke. Work may be carried on indoors or outdoors, and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.

This is an on-site, full-time, safety-sensitive position. Standard days and hours of work vary by department, days and hours determined by department schedules.
