equivalent knowledge and ability). SUMMARY The City of Chicopee?s
Building Department is hiring a Local Building Inspector who enforces
the provisions of the Massachusetts State Building Code (780 CMR), the
Massachusetts Architectural Access Board (521 CMR), as well as the City
of Chicopee Ordinances for the safety and protection of the general
public. ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE: The local inspector shall enforce all
the provisions of 780 CMR, 521 CMR and any other state statutes, rules,
regulations, ordinance or bylaws which empower the building official.
Act on any question relative to the mode or manner of construction and
materials to be used in the construction, reconstruction, alterations,
repair, demolition, removal, installation of equipment and the location,
use, occupancy and maintenance of all buildings and structures, except
as otherwise specifically provided for by statutory requirements or as
provided for in 780 CMR. Receive applications and issue permits for the
construction, reconstruction, alteration, repair, demolition, removal or
change in use or occupancy of buildings and structures and inspect the
premises for which such permits have been issued and enforce compliance
with the provisions of 780 CMR. Issue all necessary notices or orders to
ensure compliance with 780 CMR. Make such inspections as deemed
necessary to ensure compliance with 780 CMR. Inspect and investigate all
zoning issues as assigned by the building commissioner. QUALIFICATIONS
Five (5) years\' experience in supervision\* of the State Building Code
in construction or design. - Required Massachusetts Construction
Supervisors License for at least five (5) years. - Required Two (2) year
Associates Degree in a field related to building construction or design
for local Inspector or: Four (4) year degree in a field related to
building construction or design for inspector of buildings/building
commissioner. Combination of education and work experience which would
confer equivalent knowledge and ability. A general knowledge of the
accepted requirements for building construction, fire prevention, light,
ventilation, safe exits and the requirements of Section 13 A of Chapter
22 and the rules and regulations promulgated pursuant thereto pertaining
to accessible design standards; and a general knowledge of other
equipment and materials essential for safety, comfort, and convenience
