Construction Inspector Position Title: Construction Inspector

Department: DPW - Engineering Employment Status: UFCW Administration,

Non-Exempt, Full-Time Salary: Grade A09, Step 01 Starting at \$26.06 per

closely related discipline, with a minimum of 3 years\' experience in

public works construction inspec SUMMARY The City of Chicopee\'s

Department of Public Works / Engineering Division is hiring a

Construction Inspector who is responsible for inspections/supervision of

construction and/or repair and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, sewer,

and drainage systems for compliance with specifications and conformance

to good construction practices; inspects materials, grading, drainage,

roadside development, curbing, laying of pipe, building and/or repair of

catch basins, manholes, and drop inlets, placement of road sub-surfaces

and surfaces, pouring of concrete and related items; ability to take

detailed field notes and sketches; notifies contractor and City Engineer

when work does not conform to specifications or accepted construction

practices so that corrective action will be taken; assists the

Department by coordinating the activities of contractors and municipal

personnel; investigates public requests and complaints and recommends

action; maintains records of sewer, drainage facilities, roadways, and

location of utilities; furnishes engineering information to property

owners, contractors, and utility companies; operates transit, level, or

other surveying instruments as needed; prepares progress and other

required reports, keeps records, and performs other related duties;

reviews and tracks permits issued by the Engineering Department and

coordinates the permit process with the permit applicants; performs

duties required by the DPW Superintendent during weather emergencies

which may include overtime. ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE: At the direction

of the City Engineer and the Assistant City Engineer, the Construction

Inspector is responsible for the following: Assists in the planning and

organization of \"in-house\" construction projects. May assist with

preparation of contract documents for in-house projects. Performs

general engineering calculations for highway geometry including but not

limited to volumes, areas, and grades, etc. Determines feasibility of

proposed designs through site inspection, discussions, and review of

available data. Recommends alternate methods of construction and

materials. Assists the Department with the development and coordinates

the implementation of traffic control plans in support of highway

construction and maintenance projects. Assists with calculation of unit

cost for estimates and payment for related construction projects. Reads

and interprets plans, maps, and charts, and draws sketches for

preliminary construction plans. Computes and plots the major phases of a

field survey including the balancing of closed traverses and level

circuits, reconciling them with the baselines, layouts, and level datum.

Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Associate degree in Civil

Engineering, or closely related discipline, with a minimum of three (3)

years\' experience in public works construction inspection - Required A

combination of education and practical experience may be considered. MA

Class D Driver\'s License - Required Knowledge of OSHA regulations and

requirements. Demonstrated working knowledge of Federal & State

regulations. Demonstrated knowledge of AutoCAD (Civil 3D preferred),
