Senior Electrical Engineer / Authority Having Jurisdiction
- Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
- Berkeley, California
- Full Time
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) is seeking an Electrical Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for the Advanced Light Source Upgrade Project ( ALS-U ) , a large-scale Department of Energy (DOE) project to upgrade the Laboratorys flagship particle accelerator. This role oversees the safety of electrical installations, modifications, equipment replacements, and the use of listed and unlisted equipment. A key responsibility is resolving complex electrical issues through in-depth analysis.
The AHJ ensures dedicated support to ALS-U by applying a graded, risk-based approach aligned with applicable codes, regulations, and institutional policies. The AHJ also ensures safe work practices and compliance while supporting project goals.
Join LBNLs world-class team and help bring science solutions to the world by advancing project excellence at Berkeley Lab!

- Oversee premises wiring installations (e.g., transformers, panels, disconnects, programmatic cabling).
- Inspect and approve grounding and bonding, and manage electrical code compliance review process.
- Review and approve electrical designs, specifications, and field conditions for NEC compliance and constructability.
- Review and approve alternative methods of compliance (equivalencies) when supported by technical justification and demonstrated appropriate level of safety..
- Manage in-house and third-party electrical inspections and maintain documentation.
- Approve third-party field evaluations and on-site inspections of unlisted equipment, per NFPA 70E Article 350.
