Annual Salary Range:

$117,427.58 - $151,965.10

Your Specific Responsibilities:

P erforms and oversees special assignments involving complex bridge design, review of in-house designs including bridges and miscellaneous structures, research of existing documentation to develop design policies and specifications and identifies research needs related to structures

Develops, supervises, and works with management in the implementation of proposals for new design policies and procedures and is responsible for developing and publishing the Structures Manual on an annual basis. Coordinates the development and distribution of Structures Bulletins. Assures the Structures Manual complements the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Bridge Design Specifications. Coordinates the adoption of AASHTO revisions into Department policies and manuals.

Coordinates and oversees the development of construction specifications which are originated in the Structures Office and comments on proposed specification revisions originating outside the office.

Supervises employees by communicating with, motivating, training, evaluating, and planning employees' work assignments. Performs timesheet and leave approvals and other administrative duties.

Reviews post-tensioning systems for compliance with the specifications.

Supervises Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) staff and coordinates staff assignments to various work activities within the office. Coordinates the training of CADD staff.

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • of the design and construction of major bridges including steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete and post-tensioned concrete of geotechnical and study techniques
  • Knowledge of test methods for bridge components and bridges

Skills in:

  • the design of bridge components

Ability to:

  • manage, supervise, and assign tasks to a diverse group of employees
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • work independently and adapt to work situations and assignments
  • Evaluate engineering works and systems for areas of employment.
  • Supervise people.

Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:

Registration as a Professional Engineer pursuant to Chapter 471, Florida Statutes.
