The Idaho Department of Insurance ( has an exciting career opportunity in theState Fire Marshals Office ( . This important roles primary responsibilities are to coordinate, expedite, and review fire plans and specifications for compliance; and serve as the departments technical expert in the application of specific fire, life safety, and related codes and standards. This position also interacts with the National Fire Academy, assists with large-scale event venues, and has occasional fieldwork opportunities.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

+ Examining plans and specifications for new construction and remodeling both state-owned and leased structures;

+ Examining all automatic water-based fire protection systems plans as required by state law;

+ Determining design compliance with specific fire codes and standards;

+ Preparing detailed reports and correspondence regarding fire code compliance assessments;

+ Consulting with and advising architects, engineers, attorneys, contractors, local and state officials, and the public on interpretation and application of various codes and regulations;

+ Researching and evaluating new materials and construction technology for compliance with requirements;

+ Preparing and presenting training sessions for local fire officials;

+ Assisting management and legal staff in addressing violations and possibly testifying in court or in administrative hearings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a valid drivers license.
