Northrop Grumman Space Systems has an opening for either a Structural Engineer (level 2) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located in Oxnard, CA. Our Space Components division specializes in deployable systems for spacecraft such as reflectors, instrument booms, and various extendible support structures.
The selected candidate will be responsible for performing design analysis and testing of one or more of the spacecraft systems of subsystems. You will have ownership of your work from the concept creation through the design and analysis phases and may also participate in the manufacturing, testing, and integration of the systems.
Responsibilities:
- Perform static and dynamic structural analyses, review requirements for materials, structure systems & subsystems
- Document test plans and procedure requirements
- Participate and present in internal and external (customer) design reviews
- Strive for the highest possible structural performance that is also cost effective and assures complete reliability
- Manage and track multiple priorities while maintaining a focus towards common project goals of the program team, matrix organization, and customers
Basic Qualifications for Structural Engineer:
- Bachelor's degree from a STEM program with 2 years of engineering experience in finite element analysis and closed-form analysis
- Demonstrated experience with FEA analysis, preferably FEMAP/NASTRAN, for structural analysis of designs
- Spacecraft/aerospace materials experience for metals, adhesives, thermoplastics, etc.
- Demonstrated understanding of mechanical system design
- Strong communication skills, oral and written
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Ability to multitask and organize/prioritize job assignments in a fast-paced and gated-release engineering development environment
- US Citizenship required
