Job Description : MS6083 - Associate Project Scheduler

Compensation: (H ourly) $28.94/hour - $40.52/hour

Job Summary
Provide scheduling services to the Project Controls organization. Develop proficiency in schedule management processes, tools, techniques, and schedule information management system (Primavera 6 or latest used) for Major Projects. Perform core schedule management processes and core schedule monitoring and control functions; apply schedule variance assessment for multiple projects during the typical project life cycles.

Apply the results of initial schedule planning (schedule development) in the creation and maintenance of the project milestone and summary schedule. Collect the results of project planning and input into the common schedule information system template. Perform core schedule development processes to generate levels of schedule hierarchy for the project. Perform schedule status updates from the relevant project management team. Assign activity percent completes and perform schedule variance assessment. Establish "path forward" schedule and apply schedule change control. Close schedule portions upon successful completion of project work.

The Assistant Project Scheduler will advance his/her competence in core project management systems (scope, schedule, cost) while coordinating fundamental schedule development and management. Using a standard project Work Breakdown Structure / Code of Accounts a schedule template is used to record schedule activities, schedule logic, schedule durations, schedule resource estimates, schedule calendars, execution reality (schedule constraints ) . The Assistant Project Scheduler will interface with the project outside contractors to generate quality schedule submissions.

Develop cost engineering and project management capability and competence using industry standards (AACE, PMI, Construction Management Industry, etc.) and best practice application to expand knowledge base and optimum application.

Facilitate and interface with both internal and external stakeholders and contractors to ensure the inclusion of relevant information into the project schedule. Effectively communicate and disseminate schedule management and reporting status and work performance information to the project management team, project team, and impacted product stakeholders.

Develop proficiency and versatility in schedule software (P6) and other project management systems (resource planning and tracking).

Essential Functions

  • Develop competence in scope development, scope management, and Work Breakdown Structure development, utilization , and management. Ensure that project work elements are organized and are reflected in terms of approved resource estimating for project scheduling.
  • Required to WALK PROJECTS DOWN to develop schedule logic, resource, and duration estimates and to determine valid budgeted cost of work scheduled (PV / BCWS).
  • Establish proficiency in Work Breakdown Structure development and management as well as the importance and utilization of the work breakdown structure dictionary integrated attributes.
  • Increase schedule quality awareness to progressively ensure schedule quality. Apply effective schedule performance metrics to the project.
  • Develop proficiency in project risk management. Apply scope risk management for the effective planning of project work.
  • Develop proficiency in contract commercial (schedule focused) management, contract schedules, contract schedule milestones, contract performance assessment and reporting requirements.
  • Develop expanding proficiency in project cost management.
  • Develop expanding proficiency in project schedule management.
  • Review and coordinate the management and utilization of project controls guideline , scope and schedule management standards, schedule management processes, schedule management job aids / schedule tools and information management systems.
  • Develop / apply proficiency in schedule estimating and use to validate contractor schedule estimates, forecasts, and estimated completion dates. Manage the Basis of Schedule Estimates.
  • Develop / apply proficiency in project schedule base-lining .
  • Evaluates schedule performance and schedule variance (SV) and establishes root causes for negative variances and positive variances.
  • Interfaces with the project management team members to facilitate schedule analysis and apply to remaining schedule activities.
  • Review and assess schedule variances and identify schedule changes and implement schedule change control; apply schedule baseline change management.
  • Perform standard project and special project schedule reporting as required by the project stakeholders; assist in compilation and running of associated schedule performance reports as required and directed.
  • Possesses an integration mindset; integration of people, processes, tools, and techniques.
  • Develop product life cycle costing competence.
  • Assist the project management team, Major Project managers, Director, and other relevant stakeholders in reviewing, assessing, analyzing, and change managing schedule management information and reporting.
  • Interface with project stakeholders to effectively develop and manage the project schedules.
  • Develop proficiency in effective communication and assessing project stakeholders for their core and special schedule reporting, schedule assessment, and schedule analysis needs and provide those stakeholders with optimum communication, information, and reporting.
  • The Assistant Project Scheduler will perform in accordance with Industry standards, the NiSource Project Management Guidelines and Standards, and industry best practices.

Required Qualifications For Position

  • High School Diploma
  • 1 -3 years two years of experience working in technical field
  • Experience in large industrial Capital Project environments.
  • Developing a knowledge base in project schedule development, schedule status and progress reporting and initial schedule monitoring and control processes
  • Expected comprehension of project planning and scheduling guidelines, standards, processes, and job aids.

Provides scheduling services for major annual unit outages and major Capital construction /maintenance projects. Provide assistance , advice, and support to project team members in regards to their development of individualized project work breakdown structures. Facilitate the coordinated effort to develop a fully integrated project network logic. Communicate project schedule information to project team members, and management staffs to ensure project success criteria and maintenance results are achievable. Conduct effective collaboration between project managers and contract construction managers.
Implements best practices while driving functional consistency and process standardization. Supports a project management and planning culture. Effective use of technology, tools and scheduling techniques to improve process results. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with various individuals and functions across the organization. Knowledge of policies, procedures, and standards pertaining to construction, inclusive of safety policies and procedures. Proficient with personal computers.

Essential Functions

  • Facilitate the overall scheduling of work activities to ensure that timely and continuous coordination is adequately carried out by responsible project teams.
  • Provide detailed Work Breakdown Structures of project activities and interfaces so that proper work management, coordination and cost tracking can be achieved.
