The backhoe operator on a pipe crew is responsible for a safe excavation of the trench for the installation of the utilities. The backhoe operator needs to follow hand signals given from the pipe layer. The backhoe operator will take extreme care when digging with the pipe crew in the ditch and around utilities. They need to be consistently aware of their surroundings and potential hazards.
