General Description:

Performs semi-skilled construction and maintenance tasks that support the operational functions of the Nacogdoches County Road and Bridge Department. Duties include operating tractors and mowers to maintain road right of ways; performing a variety of manual road construction, repair and maintenance tasks; driving trucks with trailers to deliver and pick-up equipment from worksites; cutting trees, picking-up and disposing of debris, garbage and dead animals; performing preventive maintenance on equipment as required and performing additional duties as assigned or needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge and ability to operate and maintain power-driven equipment

Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled construction and maintenance tasks that include heavy labor and manual tasks for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions

Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and rules involved in light equipment operations

Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices

Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision

Ability to learn, understand and apply pertinent laws, rules and regulations

Additional Information:

Work will be performed outdoors with exposure to extreme temperatures both hot and cold

Exposure to noise, dirt, dust and vehicle exhaust

Exposure to fumes and smoke, electrical hazards

Working in and/or near water including creeks and ditches

Working in confined or high workplaces, and on slippery and/or uneven surfaces

Exposure to hazards associated with traffic control and working in and near traffic

Subject to emergency call-out duty 24 hours a day

Physical Requirements:

Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical and drug screen

Ability to wear personal protective equipment

Ability to work outside in extreme heat or cold for up to 10 hours per day

Ability to lift and carry heavy materials and equipment in excess of 50 lbs

Ability to sit, stoop, bend, crouch, crawl and reach

Ability to climb and work from ladders and construction related equipment

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time

Qualifications:

High school diploma or G.E.D.

One (1) year experience in construction, maintenance or related field

Requires possession of a valid Texas Driver License
