What You Will Do
As a Cable Technician (Uncleared), you will support infrastructure projects by installing, terminating, and testing structured cabling systems in commercial and enterprise environments. You will assist in routing cables, preparing racks, and performing field terminations while adhering to technical specifications and quality standards. Your work will directly support the build-out and reliability of secure communication and data systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in running cables for equipment racks and building infrastructure.
- Read and interpret technical drawings to determine correct cabling paths.
- Install cabling under floors and above ceilings using trays, baskets, J-hooks, and other supports.
- Perform field termination of various copper connectors using correct tools and techniques.
- Test cabling to meet performance and quality specifications.
- Label cables accurately and perform rack and termination shelf cable management.
- Discuss and apply best practices for pathways, spaces, bonding, grounding, and firestopping.
- Select appropriate tools and methodologies for assigned tasks.
- Work collaboratively with team members to complete installations on time and to standard.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical installation tasks.
- Knowledge of cable layout, termination, testing, and documentation.
- Familiarity with cable management hardware and structured cabling environments.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow installation standards.
- Capable of working independently or under minimal supervision.
- Strong understanding of safety practices related to cable installation.
Education and Experience
- 2 years of technical experience in IT cable installation and termination.
- An additional 2 years of relevant experience may be substituted in place of certification.
Certifications
- Preferred: BICSI Installer 1
