Tesla's Automation Development team leads the charge in designing innovative automation equipment to empower our operations team to produce world-class vehicles, energy storage solutions, and robotics with exceptional quality and efficiency in a safe, ergonomic environment.

We are seeking a Technical Project Manager to oversee the project management aspects of our equipment design and build lifecycle. In this role, you will serve as the primary liaison between the manufacturing engineering team, responsible for defining equipment requirements, and the technical team, tasked with developing and executing automation equipment. You will manage high-visibility, high-value projects, applying project management expertise to ensure timely and efficient execution.

  • Define project scope, goals, and deliverables, developing detailed plans, timelines, and milestones aligned with organizational objectives
  • Manage budgets, timelines, and team resources to keep projects on track and within scope
  • Collaborate with product, quality, test, and manufacturing engineering teams to foster a high-performing, cross-functional team environment
  • Understand technical requirements, architectures, and constraints, guiding teams through trade-offs to ensure technical feasibility
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks, anticipating blockers and developing contingency plans
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure project success and provide regular progress reports to project teams and leadership
  • Travel to manufacturing locations to lead equipment installation and commissioning (estimated travel: 25-40%)
  • 5+ years of program or project management experience in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, or equivalent evidence of exceptional ability
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and principles
  • Proven experience delivering complex programs and projects on time and within budget
  • Demonstrated ability to align with project stakeholders, engineering designers, and equipment builders
  • Experience with complex electromechanical equipment, preferably in a manufacturing or automation context
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience
