Design Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION

Department: Engineering

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Primary Work Location: Endicott, NY

SUMMARY

An Amphenol Industrial Operations (AIO Design Engineer will work with the DesignEngineering team on new and existing business spanning many markets and businessopportunities. They will be responsible for sustaining legacy products of thecompany, performing research and creating new product designs The positionreports to the Engineering Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage technical aspects of Product Design projects from ideation/concept tolaunch working closing with the cross-functional team utilizing lean productdevelopment techniques

  • Effectively works independently or with others

  • Design expertise with plastics (injection molding), and metals (stamping andmachining)

  • Familiar with connector manufacturing processes including progressive diestamping, injection molding, crimping, ultrasonic welding, assembly, etc.

  • Create all engineering documents utilizing SolidWorks or CREO and ePDMincluding BOMs, ECN, Drawings, etc.

  • Develop test plan to meet all product requirements

  • Work with test lab and/or performs tests to gain knowledge or qualifydesigns.

  • Responsible for development and accuracy of work performed

  • May work with outside Engineering Services or suppliers with their daily workor to support other departments

  • Utilize creativity to develop product concepts and determine most effectiveway to gain knowledge required to develop product efficiently

  • Continuing education and training encouraged

  • Strives to continuously build knowledge and skills

  • Communicate with customers regarding their documents

  • Utilize continuous improvement mindset when approaching work

  • Follow all safety policies and procedures and practices minimizing risk andstriving for "Zero" incidents

  • Follow all company policies and procedures

  • Adhere to methods, policies and processes set forth by the engineeringmanagement team

  • 5S/Housekeeping

  • Other duties as assigned by management

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; Mechanical Engineering preferred

  • Minimum of 5 Years experience in Connector Product Design Required

  • Possess desire and ability to work cross functionally to develop and launchnew innovative designs

  • Knowledge of and Experience with standards such as MIL-DTL-5015,MIL-DTL-38999, MIL-DTL-28482 , UL, IEC, etc

  • Excellent Creo and Solidworks skills with commitment to best modelingpractices

  • Connector testing experience required; including but not limited to tensiletesting, cross-sections, temperature rise, and Mil spec testing.

  • Ability to effectively use engineering analysis tools including finiteelement analysis, mold flow simulation, heat transfer and electrical simulationdesired

  • Strong Decision-making ability with the capability to explain reasoning forsaid decisions

  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills required,including modern communication and office software

  • Proficiency working with project management platform and ERP systems

  • Expertise in creating drawings, tolerance analysis and GD&T

  • Possess ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks within a fast-pacedenvironment

  • Must have computer proficiency MS Office Suite with an intermediate skilllevel in Excel

  • Working knowledge of Lean tool including but not limited to: Root CauseAnalysis, A3s, Knowledge Reports

  • Prototyping experience required including 3D printing, contact and connectorprototyping

  • Demonstrated fluency in technical concepts

  • Must be able to show eligibility to legally work in the United States ofAmerica; Sponsorship not available for this position

  • Must be fluent in English
