Who will you be working with?

L&M Radiator, Inc. is a global designer, manufacturer, and distributor of MESABI cooling and heat transfer solutions that are custom-made for heavy equipment in the mining, oil, gas, construction and heavy industrial industries. This role is crucial in ensuring the efficient and profitable execution of our manufacturing operations. You will work directly with Customer Service, Drafting, Application and Production Engineering. This role directly reports to the Production Manager.

How will you make a difference?

The Production Estimator will create, communicate, and maintain standard hours for all parts and production operations across all our facilities, globally. Duties include completing standard (BOO) hours for all new drawing set releases with drafting, assisting production with job related tasks regarding standard hours in Epicor, supporting vendor hour needs as required and interacting with departments as needed for scheduling, pricing, and efficiency projects. Work with outside vendors to determine progress of work performed. Responsible for accurately estimating the time, cost, and resources required to complete production projects. This role is crucial in ensuring the efficient and profitable execution of our manufacturing operations.

This position is a salaried position with basic office hours of 7:00am - 4:00pm, Monday through Friday. This position is located in beautiful northern Minnesota on the Iron Range. It is an onsite role that will interact with internal and external customers.

What do we want to know about you?

  • AA or AAS degree in engineering technology, manufacturing or related field with 3 years previous experience in production estimating or similar role or HS Diploma or GED with 5 years L&M knowledge.
  • Valid Drivers license.
  • 18 years or older.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Establish standard hours and operations for method inputs.
  • Assist Production Manager and Production Coordinator with all cost gross margins and labor review activities.
  • Review standard hours as needed to assist Production Coordinator.
  • Complete hour and operation updates, when required by drafting, upon completion of engineering revisions.
  • Work with production and vendors to resolve problems.
  • Examine materials, drawings and documents for completeness and accuracy.
  • Coordinate job and method changes, with production and drafting, to support lean initiatives.
  • Edit and proofread documents and computer entries to ensure accuracy prior to data input.
  • Review and audit standard hours with production, design team and customer service to support efficiency, manufacturability, and profitability goals.
  • Route new jobs and old PNs throughout the shop and coordinate workflow to ensure prints are correct for machine shop.
  • Responsible for effectively communicating with the Production Manager and Production Coordinator if ship dates cannot be met or delays occur for other departments.
  • Review jobs for special instructions and procedures.
  • Ensure all personnel follow safety procedures.
  • Attend required meetings including, but not limited to supervisor meetings, quarterly safety meetings, trainings, Cost Committee meetings, and other meetings when directed.
  • Effectively communicate with all shifts and departments to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Complete daily HIT list to aid knowledge on specific builds.
  • Review quality data monthly for areas of concern.
  • Assist in other areas of production as needed
  • Responsible for being the backup to the Production Coordinator position, when needed.
    • Coordinate and expedite the flow of work and materials within or between departments according to production schedule.
    • Review and distribute production, work, and shipment schedules; confer with customer service, drafting, engineering, department supervisors, and purchasing to determine progress of work, delivery dates, parts and material availability, and completion dates; and compiling reports on progress of work and production problems.
  • Perform work in a safe manner and follow all safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Domestic and international travel is possible depending on the project.
  • Perform related work or job duties as required by supervisor.

What about the physical demands of the job?

  • Wear correct PPE earplugs, protective eye wear, steel-toed boots, and work provided uniform (gloves when necessary)
  • Lift a minimum of 50lbs.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time at workstation.
  • Long duration of computer screen time.
  • Read and follow instructions and blueprints.
  • Practice and maintain safe work conditions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required for Entry Level:

  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to communicate, in English, effectively and clearly by both written and verbal means.
  • Knowledge of scheduling and planning techniques.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient at reading blueprints and understanding manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of Epicor or similar ERP system.
  • Demonstrate maturity, intelligence, cooperation, and discretion.
  • Work effectively with fellow employees, as a team and independently.
  • Experience using SolidWorks with 3-D design or similar software.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft 365 Platform (Teams, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and background test.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in engineering, manufacturing, or related field with 3-5 years of experience in production estimating or similar role.
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or Six Sigma.

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

The salary range for this role is between $63,000-104,000. The actual starting salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands, and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between

$60,700.00-$83,400.00
