Summary of Role:

The Quality Assurance Supervisor serves as lead for Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), food safety regulations, weight control, sanitary design, allergens, cleaning, incident management and other related matters in maintaining the Food Safety and Quality Management System for the plant. Primary responsibilities include, but not limited to, developing the sites HACCP program, building Food Safety and Quality Plans and ensures compliance with all FDA and state regulations for food production.

This role plays a critical part in the development of policies, procedures, and specifications in accordance with Hershey's Product Excellence Program. Role is responsible for HACCP monitoring, in-house quality inspections and audits, performance of receiving inspections, and approval of finished goods for shipment. This team member will be a key provider in assurance that manufacturing processes comply with applicable certification standards as well as work towards creation of a world-class manufacturing environment.

Role Responsibilities:

Acts as leader for FDA regulatory compliance, FDA and State inspections, and Safe Quality Foods Practitioner for the facility.

Knowledge of federal and state food industry regulations including Food Safety Modernization Act

Detailed knowledge of regulatory and quality system requirements - Hershey's Product Excellence Program, Food Safety (FSMA, HACCP), Good Manufacturing Process (GMP).

Adherence to all applicable FDA health and OSHA safety regulations

Completion of all required paperwork and forms in an accurate and timely manner

Objective evaluation of products and processes

Work closely with operations personnel to achieve company initiatives

Timely review of records generated by operations team members for accuracy and validity

Development and implementation effective records retention program

Inspection of incoming raw materials

Review of incoming material COA's

Calibration of lab equipment

Inspection of finished products prior to release to warehouse

Identification of areas for improvement in the Food Safety and Quality Management System

Performance of audits activities for verification to established policies, procedures, and work instructions

Effective communication between the quality function and operations

Flexibility in regard to work schedule as needed

Performance of required environmental testing

Management of special projects and performance of other duties as directed

Inspection and participation in sanitation processes as necessary

Oversee QA technicians

Manage technician schedules

Train new hired technicians in laboratory procedures and best practices

Incident Management:leads troubleshooting, structured problem solving, management of product holds and facilitates root cause analysis and development of corrective and preventive actions.

Other related activities as assigned

Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Completion of college courses in a scientific discipline

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Basic understanding of mathematical principles and the ability to interpret numerical data

HACCP certification or ability to achieve such certification

Preventive Controls Qualified Individual Training

Demonstrative ability to interact with operations personnel

Ability to effectively operate test equipment

Ability to be objective in data interpretation

Ability to be objective in personal interactions

Ability to focus on process and not people when seeking corrective action to operational challenges

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

Ability to lift 40 pounds repetitively

Ability to bend, twist, and stand on your feet for an entire shift

Exposed to food production environment and warehouse environment which may involve noise and fluctuating temperatures

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Education -

College degree in a scientific discipline.

Experience -

At least 1-3 years of experience in a quality assurance role in a manufacturing environment.
