We are seeking candidates to fill the position of Entry-level Civil
Design Engineer to serve a varied client base and help expand our Land
Development Practice at our Gorrill Palmer office in South Portland,
Maine.
The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of progressive experience and
possess the professional and interpersonal skills to make a positive
impact on our firm and the clients we serve. The successful candidate
will possess a can-do attitude, have a passion for and take pride in
their work, be a creative thinker, and have a willingness to collaborate
while having the ability to work independently.
**Annual Compensation:** \$70,000-80,000 based upon experience,
certifications, and regional market standards.

**ENTRY-LEVEL CIVIL DESIGN ENGINEER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**
- Plan and design a wide range of land development projects.
- Perform engineering calculations or analyses.
- Prepare drawings and graphics using CAD platforms and other graphics
software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Assist in preparing engineering reports, permit applications, bid
documents and other typical written communication.
- Perform construction observation to ensure conformance to design
specifications, assist in resolving issues that arise and strengthen
design skills through a greater understanding of construction means
and methods.
- Perform various types of engineering modeling tasks, potentially
including: Hydraulic pipe sizing, pump station sizing, stormwater
runoff calculations and modeling.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and opinions of probable construction cost
for various design projects.
- Analyze, review, and understand design guidelines, specifications,
ordinances and rules and regulations associated with development and
design.
- Perform basic survey work, such as using a level to confirm
elevations of existing site features.
- Interact and communicate with office staff, design team members,
contractors, regulatory officials and clients.
**Additional Responsibilities:**
- Desire to innovate and solve difficult problems from inception to
final deliverable.
- Ability to react quickly and calmly to high-pressure situations.
- Ability to work independently and in team settings.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
- Other duties as assigned.
**ENTRY-LEVEL CIVIL DESIGN ENGINEER ESSENTIAL CREDENTIALS:**
**Education:**
- Bachelor s degree in civil engineering required.
- EIT or EI Certification preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience, required.
**Qualifications:**
- Experience with design and plan production in AutoCad Civil 3D,
MicroStation, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal design standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
