Plumber Job Responsibilities:
Wears appropriate safety equipment and complies with departmental and OSHA safety standards at all times; Keeps personal workspaces and equipment in a safe and orderly condition; Follows hospital infection control and universal precautions at all times.
Maintains a working knowledge of the fire suppression systems in the hospital to include sprinkler piping, valving and other components; Maintains and repairs fire suppression systems in the hospital to ensure a reliable system that minimizes safety risks to occupants; Modifies fire suppression systems by following applicable codes and standards.
Maintains required records of fire suppression systems maintenance and testing to respond to county and The Joint Commission inquires.
Maintains knowledge of the plumbing systems throughout the facilities to include hot and cold water systems, natural gas systems, storm sewer systems and sanitary sewer systems; Isolates, repairs and maintains hospital plumbing systems to provide a safe and reliable plumbing environment.
Repairs and maintains sterile processing and operating room equipment to ensure reliable operation; Installs plumbing fixtures and piping throughout the hospital per state and county codes.
Plans the material needs of a job according to requirements for the job and knowledge of the plumbing trade to maximize efficiency.
Inspects and tests all steam pressure pipes and equipment to identify operational deficiencies requiring corrections; Repairs or replaces defective steam lines, valves, steam traps and condensate systems according to state and county codes.
Repairs and maintains steam operated equipment used by other units in the hospital to ensure reliable operations; Installs steam operated equipment in hospitals.
Maintains required records of steam systems under shop and department requirements.
Ensures that all testing and maintenance conducted on hospital water systems is accomplished by following department safety procedures before shutting down any part of the system.
Maintains current knowledge of state and county plumbing codes and all applicable certifications to test and maintain water systems.
Maintains and repairs all backflow devices in the hospital according to government and life safety codes.
Maintains required records on all cross-connection and backflow devices that are periodically tested for reliability or replaces to provide an audit trail for inspection purposes.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Experience: 4 years of experience as a plumber.
Licensure: Plumber Journeyman with Back-flow Preventer license required within 6 months of hire.
