The Storm Maintenance Division constructs, repairs, and maintains the citys stormwater systems. The team is filling two positions: a Technician and an Equipment Operator. The Technician performs and assists with regular and recurring maintenance of city stormwater and wastewater collections infrastructure. The Equipment Operator uses a variety of heavy equipment to facilitate those projects and will primarily operate a CCTV truck to perform inspections on underground infrastructure.

These positions are full-time, non exempt, SEIU classified, and DOT-covered. Individuals in these positions will be subject to random drug screen and breath alcohol tests in accordance with Department of Transportation guidelines. There is one Technician vacancy and one Equipment Operator vacancy.

CCTV Equipment Operator

  • Operate vehicles, tools, and equipment required for maintenance of stormwater and wastewater collections infrastructure
  • Ensure that all electrical components are working correctly. Use computer and TV to ensure high quality recording of underground utilities.
  • Coordinate the repair of sanitary sewer and storm drainage systems requiring excavation and retrofitting of sections of pipe, and replacement or addition of manholes, pollution control devices, or catch basin structures.
  • Install, construct, maintain, and repair utility lines. Inspect and test lines using a variety of equipment and chemicals. Read and analyze engineering as-builts to ensure correct installation.
  • Read and analyze recorded mapping systems and footage for use on replacement projects.
  • Maintain a safe worksite and provide leadership to the crew, resolving issues in the absence of the crew lead.
  • Additional duties as outlined in the class specification.

Technician

  • Maintain and repair utility lines and collections infrastructure.
  • Inspect and test lines using a variety of chemicals and equipment.
  • Assist Equipment Operators, installing cutting attachments and making field repairs and device adjustments.
  • Set up shoring and enter confined spaces. Keep records of entry and maintain equipment in good working order.
  • Update GIS maps, documenting new or deficient information.
  • Develop safe work habits and assist in creating a positive and supporting work environment with a culture of teamwork and communication.
  • Additional duties as outlined in the class specification.

Equipment Operator

Minimum qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and
  • 4 years of experience in operations, installation, construction, repair, and maintenance of street structures, with one year operating heavy equipment, or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.

Licensing and special requirements

  • Oregon Department of Environmental Quality Wastewater Operator level II certification within 1 year of hire.
  • Class A Commercial Drivers License with tank endorsement within 360 days of hire.
  • Ability to pass reference checks and satisfy the requirements of a background check, physical exam, and pre-employment drug screen.

Public Works Technician

Minimum qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, and
  • 3 years of experience in operations, installation, construction, repair, and maintenance of street structures, or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.

Licensing and special requirements

  • Valid driver's license and the ability to meet the city's driving standards.
  • Class B Commercial Drivers License with tank endorsement within 360 days of hire.
  • Oregon Department of Environmental Quality Wastewater Operator level I certification within 1 year of hire.
  • Ability to pass reference checks and satisfy the requirements of a background check, physical exam, and pre-employment drug screen.

Wage range :*

  • Technicians: $27.73 - $37.16 hourly
  • Operators: $29.74 - $39.86 hourly

* Wage ranges include a 5% Cost-of-Living Adjustment approved by Beaverton City Council, that will be effective July 1, 2025. Exact rates may vary slightly due to rounding calculations in the payroll system.

Starting rate within the pay range will be determined based on related education and experience as provided by the applicant in their application materials. New hires who meet minimum requirements will start at step one. Higher steps may be offered to those who have additional years of directly related experience.
