The Maintenance Superintendent role provides the overall planning and execution oversight in the repair, replacement, rebuild, fabrication, construction, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance of rotating equipment, fixed equipment, mobile equipment, instrumentation, analyzers, electrical and general facility maintenance to maximize plant availability in a sustainable cost-effective manner, minimizing operational risks to ensure safe, reliable, legally compliant, environmentally sound and profitable plant operation. The Maintenance Superintendent reports directly to the ASH Maintenance Manager. This is a salaried exempt, day shift position. It is classified as a Safety Critical role.

Accountability 1 : SHE Excellence

Most important activities:

  • Champion for the INEOS 20 principles of process and Behavioral Safety and Life Saving Rules
  • Ensure assets are maintained to operate within their designed parameters and appropriate standards
  • Ensures safety performance of the team within area of responsibility.
  • Drive to SHE (including process safety) targets and demonstrate improvements for employees and contractors
  • Complete all computer based safety training ensure that employees in area of responsibility do likewise
  • Attend scheduled safety meetings and ensure that employees in area of responsibility do likewise

Accountability 2: Performance in Role

Most important activities:

  • Effective maintenance planning and efficient execution of maintenance activities
  • Ensure staff are competent on all policies and regulations
  • Adherence to API, ASME and ANSI standards and industry practices
  • Leads planning and organization alignment processes and activities between site Operations, Mechanical Integrity and Reliability Teams to improve the manufacturing organization performance.
  • Support and implement availability improvement strategies
  • Develop, support, and implement cost reduction strategies
  • Forecast spending pattern for the year
  • Set and meet budget requirements by efficiently managing resources
  • Report on maintenance performance and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Participate in and lead improvement teams assembled to improves the safety, reliability, and cost of operating plant equipment
  • Other duties as assigned
Accountability 3: Leadership & Employee Development

Most important activities:

  • Provide leadership, guidance, coaching and decision making, to ensure employees understand company goals and have the knowledge and resources needed to accomplish them
  • Manage personnel (including performance, compensation, succession planning and discipline)
  • Ensure an adequately staffed and trained department is in place and motivated to accomplish planned objectives.

• Provide guidance and long term planning to encourage employee development

  • Assure compliance with HR policies and applicable state/federal laws
  • Lead hiring process for maintenance organization
  • Develop leadership skills of Team Leaders
  • Develop technical skills of direct and indirect reports

Accountability 4 : Reliability & Cost Control

Main performance indicators:

  • Plant Reliability
  • Controllable costs including system/equipment installation, maintenance and supply expenses, as well as labor expenses
  • Comparison of budgeted and actual projects costs, time line, and deliverables
  • Review post outage and equipment failure with your team and implement blocking actions to continue to improve the process and prevents premature equipment failures
Level of education & experience in general
  • A Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant degree is preferred
  • In lieu of educational requirement, minimum high school diploma or equivalent and 10 years of relevant leadership experience in a manufacturing
  • Experience as a supervisor/manager, with highly developed knowledge of operations or maintenance
  • Maintenance Management: Knowledge of the maintenance requirements of chemical processing plant units; ability to apply this in developing maintenance processes, procedures and systems to achieve prescribed process safety, health, environmental, reliability and product quality standards.
  • People Management: Knowledge of people management processes; ability to lead, motivate, evaluate and reward personnel at the workplace.
  • Leadership/management skills
  • Knowledge or various electrical equipment, instruments and pneumatic devices
  • Knowledge or various equipment and machinery
  • Mechanical Aptitude – use of precision measurement tools and assembly techniques
  • Understanding of Chemistry and Physics
  • Understanding of Welding Principles
  • Equipment Vibration and Alignment Experience
  • Experience and knowledge of API, ANSI, ASME Industry Standards
  • Working knowledge of chemical/industrial equipment function, design, and regulatory requirements and PSM Mechanical Integrity
  • ISO System and procedures knowledge
  • Functionality with various computer programs, specifically Microsoft Office Suite and SAP
  • Six Sigma training a plus
Technical skills
  • Operational Safety: Knowledge of methods, accepted practices, considerations and regulatory requirements associated with safety and protection of workers, environment, and site.
  • Maintenance Management: Knowledge of the maintenance requirements of chemical processing plant units; ability to apply this in developing maintenance processes, procedures and systems to achieve prescribed process safety, health, environmental, reliability and product quality standards.
  • Organizational Awareness: Knowledge of the organizations vision and goals, major functional processes, operating principles and requirements, values and code of ethics; ability to apply this understanding appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Understanding of the issues related to the decision-making process; ability to analyzse situations fully and accurately and reach productive decisions.
  • People Management: Knowledge of human resource and people management processes; ability to lead, motivate, evaluate and reward personnel at the workplace.
