Painters are responsible for providing prep and paint work inside and outside buildings, clean work areas, machines, tools and equipment, custodial services, light maintenance, and some deliveries.

Painters are responsible for providing prep and paint work inside and outside buildings, clean work areas, machines, tools and equipment, custodial services, light maintenance, and some deliveries.
Specific Duties and Essential Duties:
- Prepares, primes, sands, seals, patches and paints furniture, surfaces, buildings, and fixtures utilizing all types of painting materials such as varnish, lacquer, shellac, enamel, latex, epoxy, waterproofing, heat resistant finishes and other various materials.
- Applies materials to new construction, existing, multi-story buildings, alterations and remodels.
- Operates, cleans and maintains all painting equipment, including brushes and rollers, and any other equipment. Safely stores and labels all materials.
- Erects scaffolding, rigging and ladders as necessary in a manner consistent with safety codes.
- Cleans walls, hallways, stairs, and other common areas as assigned.
- Stains, seals, and varnishes wood surfaces.
- Carries out/assists in basic maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Carries out cleaning duties as assigned.
- Assists in the maintenance of hotel furniture with maintenance/carpentry departments.
- Fills nail holes, cracks and joints with putty, plaster or other filler.
- Smooth and prepares surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint.
- Follows key control and security procedures.
- Controls costs by properly using departmental supplies, water and electricity.
- Glass repair of building windows.
- Picks up and delivers painting supplies to buildings.
- Detects needed repairs on buildings, grounds and equipment and reports it to supervisor.
- Operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Understands and uses applicable Village standard operating procedures.
- Knows the hours of operation of the Village facilities and is aware of/promotes amenities.
- Knows all emergency procedures (fire, severe weather, bomb threats, guest accident/illness, etc.).
- Turns in all lost and found items, tags and stores as directed by management.
- Practices safe work habits and uses protective equipment where appropriate.
- Stores, handles and disposes of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established procedures.
- Reports items/areas needing maintenance as per Village policy.
- Reports immediately to direct supervisor all unlawful or suspicious activities.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings, safety meetings, training classes, etc.
- Abides by all rules and regulations of the Village.
- Promotes Village at all times.
- Keeps all Village business confidential (on and off duty).
- Other duties could include working in other areas of the Village to provide support during absences or shortage of staff in other trades, assisting with Group Luggage, furniture delivery, etc.
- Performs other such tasks as may be assigned or authorized by the direct supervisor or manager.
- Can work with limited supervision.
- Reports to work on time as scheduled. Well-groomed with name badge and appropriate attire or proper uniform as defined by Shaker Village policy.
- Practices excellent customer service behaviors, including but not limited to listening, initiative, responsiveness, cheerfulness, accommodation, courtesy, honesty and professionalism.
- Demonstrates excellent and clear communication skills and helps ensure optimum communication between all shifts, departments and management.
- Demonstrates positive team spirit by providing assistance to other team members as necessary to achieve require standards of productivity and guest care.
- Makes decisions in the best interest of Shaker Village and in compliance with all applicable policies and procedures.
- Understands and uses applicable standard operating procedures.
- Knows the hours of operations of the hotel, restaurant, gift shops, nature preserve and museum and is aware of amenities.
- This position requires a great deal of physical ability and full range of body motion, including prolonged standing and walking, bending, stooping, kneeling and the mobility of stairs.
- Requires hand and eye coordination and manual and finger dexterity.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Requires the mobility to climb stairs and frequently lift and/or move heavy objects weighing up to 50 100 pounds.
- Must be able to safely work on ladders and at heights of up to 45 feet.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

- Frequently walking to and from various structures throughout Shaker Village.
- Inside/Outside work fluctuating temperatures.
- Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Frequent exposure to chemical fumes or airborne particles.
- Occasional exposure to blood borne pathogens.
- Noise level is usually quiet.
- High school diploma preferred.
- No previous experience is required but would prefer experience from priming to finishing and versatility in both solvent and water-based finishes.
- Valid Kentucky Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Basic Math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
