and Duties

The incumbent reviews and evaluates the construction, operation, and maintenance of energy facilities and power plants for water supply, waste-water disposal, waste, water quality, and storm-water to assess the potential impacts on human health and the environment. The incumbent also must have specific experience in analysis of site hydrology and hydraulic design and construction of water conveyance facilities such as basins, levees, canals, natural channels or ditches and other facilities for conveyance and mitigation of storm and flood water flows. The incumbent reviews sensitive project sites that may have issues involving flooding and stormwater management, discharges to impaired water bodies, depleted groundwater and surface water resources, wastewater management and disposal methods, and solid waste management and disposal; responds to soils or water resources issues that may arise regarding power plant operations; and conducts investigations to determine if any violations of the program's regulations, the Energy Commission's conditions of certification, or the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) have occurred. The incumbent also conducts soil and water resource investigations, studies, and analytical evaluations that contribute to Energy Commission's policy and planning responsibilities. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California is preferred, but not required.

Working Conditions

The CEC supports a hybrid workplace model with office-based and remote-centered workers. Limited in-person attendance and occasional travel may be required based on the needs of the division. Regular and consistent attendance is essential to successful performance. This position is remote-centered, which means the incumbent works 50 percent or more of their time from an alternate work location.
