Charter Steel is hiring a Senior Project Engineer Electrical Operations!

Job Summary:

In this role, you will understand and address high-level electrical design needs across all plant operations, coaching and leading teams to achieve company goals while planning for future growth. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with Plant Operations to provide effective electrical design engineering solutions. Your responsibilities include managing capital projects from development to completion, focusing on mid-to-high voltage power requirements. You will also leverage your leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills to lead cross-functional teams and act as a liaison between vendors and plant operations. Furthermore, you will serve as the electrical expert for various capital projects.

Position specifics:

  • Location: Saukville WI or Cleveland OH (relocation assistance available)

  • Travel: Willingness to travel an average of 25%, up to 40% for limited times.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of electrical projects and initiatives at the plant or site level.

  • Develop and implement division strategies for electrical decisions based on solid evaluation practices.

  • Partner with division operations and engineering teams to ensure adherence to electrical standardization and best practices.

  • Act as a liaison between plant managers and outside contractors to provide optimal electrical systems solutions.

  • Collaborate with the Energy group on energy programs, projects, and planning.

  • Manage resources and direct all phases of strategic initiative projects, ensuring environmental aspects meet regulations.

  • Ensure equipment safety codes and electrical standards are met, and provide high-level design recommendations to upper management.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for electrical systems, specifying electrical feed and control systems.

  • Perform reliability engineering, support operational goals, and maintain ARC flash programs.

  • Design and specify electrical distribution upgrades, modifications, and new installations, while staying abreast of technological changes.

What youll need:

  • Education : Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Experience : Over seven years in industrial electrics, focusing on mid to high voltage power applications and distribution systems in manufacturing.

  • Leadership : Proven ability to coach, influence, and lead cross-functional teams.

  • Project Development : Skilled in leading projects, new equipment development, and business case creation.

  • Regulatory Knowledge : Ability to interpret and apply electrical regulations practically.

  • Technical Skills : Proficient in reading, understanding, and modifying electrical drawings, one lines, control drawings, and wiring diagrams.

  • System Knowledge : Familiar with drives, controls, motion controllers, PLCs, motors, SCRs, rectifiers, capacitors, and resistors.

  • Standards Understanding : Knowledge of NEC and NFPA-70E.

  • Reliability Practices : Experienced in reliability methodology, including leading RCA events and outage planning.

  • Analytical Skills : Excellent at providing optimum engineering solutions.

  • Project Management : Proficient in Microsoft Project or other project management tools, with proven skills in managing multiple projects.

  • Critical Thinking : Ability to understand strategic business direction and evaluate the economic cost-benefit of projects.

  • Diagnostic Skills : Capable of demonstrating proper diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques to maintenance staff.

  • Travel : Willingness to travel an average of 25%, up to 40% for limited times.

Nice to haves:

  • Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or related advanced degree.

  • Basic knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatic, combustion, machining, and mechanical systems.

  • Strong experience in the steel industry and/or other heavy industrial.

  • CPM certification or related project management certification.

  • Supervisory experience in an engineering or maintenance capacity.
