We are seeking someone to apply their expertise in cost estimating and general contract work to help us deliver on our mission to repair homes, revitalize communities and rebuild lives by providing free home repairs in San Mateo County and Northern Santa Clara County.
For over 35 years, weve helped preserve affordable home ownership and maintain the diverse fabric of the Peninsula by providing critical health and safety-related repairs. With skilled in-house repair technicians and by harnessing the power of hundreds of volunteers annually, we help approximately 100 homeowners and nonprofits annually. Rebuilding Together Peninsula has an operating budget of $3M and is one of the largest of the over 100 affiliates of Rebuilding Together Inc., a national nonprofit. Primary Responsibilities As the primary face of the organization, the estimator/technician will preview homes to determine scopes of work, provide estimated budgets and assist with some repairs as needed. Repairs may include: deck and stairs, door/window, cabinet/vanity, sub-floor and basic flooring repair and replacement, plumbing and electrical fixture replacement, and grab bar installation. This is a part-time (approximately 30 hours per week), temporary, non-exempt position with the possibility of becoming permanent based on organizational needs and performance. Based in Redwood City.
Job Responsibilities
Conduct site assessments and project take offs (time, materials, quantity etc.).
Relay job conditions and other relevant information to appropriate staff.
Develop cost estimates and detailed scopes of work and enter those into Salesforce.
Provide excellent customer service and manage client expectations.
Maintain compliance with the EPAs Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule, OSHA, RTPs Injury Illness & Prevention Policy (IIPP), etc.
Complete project close-outs (QAing work, after photos, collecting signatures, etc.)
Provide repairs as needed and time allows.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess many of the following:
At least two years residential construction experience, especially in repairs.
At least two years of project estimation including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work
Ability to estimate project budget based on site conditions and project scope
Ability to create a line item budget to be used as part of project submittal
Demonstrable basic skills, including basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and finish work
Ability to write clear scopes of work and explain estimates in plain language
Organizational skills, including paperwork (tracking receipts, mileage, hours etc.)
Strong work ethic and dependability Ability to work independently and take initiative
Strong customer service mindset
Comfort communicating with homeowners, especially those from vulnerable populations
Reliable transportation, valid California drivers license and proof of insurance
Able to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 60 lbs. without assistance
Pass a background check and fingerprinting
Fluent in English (read, write, and speak)
Working knowledge of Salesforce Preferred:
Conversational Spanish Knowledge of Peninsula
Experience working in a team environment
RRP and/or OSHA training
Contractors License and/or familiarity with local building codes, State License Board, etc.
Computer proficiency Google applications (Calendar, Gmail, etc.), as well as comfort with smartphones and online/smartphone apps.
