Salary Range: 45,856.10 - $90,252.45

Scope & Purpose:

Performs supervisory or skilled work in the operation, maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment.

Essential Functions & Duties:

  • May supervise the work of subordinate staff by scheduling, assigning and reviewing work, providing training and counseling and evaluating performance.
  • Operates, maintains, and repairs heating, ice storage tanks, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment.
  • Troubleshoots systems to determine cause of malfunctions.
  • Tests condenser water conditions and adjusts chemical feed as necessary.
  • Monitors construction on new heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems to ensure compliance with project drawings and specifications.
  • Keeps daily records and logs on operating conditions and repairs to mechanical equipment.
  • Prepares and schedules preventive maintenance programs.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs of ice machines, refrigerator and portable HVAC units.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of the operation of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment.
  • Considerable knowledge of HVAC safety requirements.
  • Considerable knowledge of the electrical aspects of HVAC equipment.
  • Skill in using tools.
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime, rotating shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work various work schedules as needed, including emergency and/or disaster recovery situations (as member of Port PUSH TEAM for Emergency Response). Ability to operate high reaches, operate forklift and operate port vehicles.
  • Ability to prioritize work.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to read and understand HVAC equipment drawings
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders
  • Ability to work in high places.
Requirements

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements:

  • Completion of the tenth grade; and
  • Three or more years of experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating, an air-conditioning (HVAC) equipment.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies listed above.

Special Requirements:

  • Incumbent must possess a current and valid Florida Motor Vehicle Operators License or capable of obtaining one within thirty days from the date of hire.
  • Must successfully pass a seaport security background check and compliance for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand and/or in case of emergencies.

Travel:

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and/or overnight travel will be expected.

Work Environment:

Environmental Exposure: Inside: 25% Outside: 75%

Work is performed primarily outdoors though the employee will be required to go into office. Employee will also be exposed to noise and vibration.

Vision and Hearing

Must be able to clearly see the computer monitor, and road (while driving) with or without corrected vision. Must be able to judge or distinguish distance and space relationships. Must be able to hear within a normal range with or without a hearing device.
