Mechanical Design Engineer

The Sanmina Dallas Design group, as part of SANMINA's global design engineering services organization is looking to add a mechanical/electronics packaging design engineer. We partner with companies across a wide range of markets to design, assemble and manufacture cutting-edge technology products. We are looking for an experienced design engineer to coordinate and directly contribute towards activities within a worldwide concept-to-manufacturing product development team focused on successfully developing, prototyping, and producing product solutions, components, modules, tooling, and systems. Client markets include communications, optics, medical, industrial, commercial, optics, transportation, and energy sectors. The position involves both leading and supporting projects from concept definition to detailed design, prototyping, test, qualification, and new product introduction to manufacturing. Knowledge of how components, materials, tolerances, and manufacturability affect a system's performance is necessary. Knowledge of mechanical design with electro-optical components is highly desirable.

Responsibilities generally include:

  • Design metal and plastic mechanical solutions for electronic packages, optical devices, or RF modules. And, further integrating these elements for a balanced design around a product ID, layout, mechanical, thermal, reliability, manufacturing, and testability.
  • Heavy Solidworks CAD utilization
  • Work with Systems Engineering to define design concepts and select key technologies in-line with requirements
  • Define materials, components, tolerances, and finishes for designs using metal, plastics, ceramics, machining, casting, printed and flex solutions.
  • Evaluate concepts for novel and effective solutions to multiple end-market products.
  • Tooling, assembly & test process definition
  • Design models and drawing creation with tolerance evaluation
  • Manufacturing and vendor capability knowledge is important in design for machining, molding, & prototyping processes.
  • Thermal and structural effects and analysis in support of the design
  • Revision control of designs.
  • Perform engineering product verification to ensure compliance to requirements.
  • Work within a worldwide multidisciplinary development team to provide design solutions to customer specifications as an individual contributor or discipline expert..
  • Support new business development by interfacing with customers, drafting proposals, and validating quotations.
  • Customer focused and demonstrated problem solver.
  • Ability to travel world-wide

Education / Skills / Experience :

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field of work
  • Minimum of 5 years of related Experience
  • 3D Solidworks CAD. Knowledge of Catia, CREO, NX, or Inventor are a plus.
  • Experience with Tolerance Analysis software.
  • Experience with Thermal Modeling is a plus
  • Experience with FEA is a plus
  • Familiarity in design of a diverse array of end-markets: medical, industrial, and communications.
  • Experience in end-to-end product development
  • Experience with developing and transferring processes, tooling and test needs for new product introduction and manufacturing.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with team, customers, and vendors
  • Fluent in English
