Cement Finisher - General Contractor

JOB PURPOSE

You will be responsible for applying the final touches to concrete surfaces to achieve a smooth, durable, and visually appealing finish. You will work as part of a construction team, utilizing your expertise in concrete placement and finishing techniques to create high-quality concrete surfaces for various projects. Your attention to detail and knowledge of different finishing methods will contribute to the successful completion of construction assignments.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Position reports to: Laborer Foreman or Superintendent

COMPETENCIES

  • Prepare concrete surfaces for finishing by cleaning, leveling, and removing debris or obstructions.
  • Set up and assemble necessary tools, equipment, and materials for concrete finishing.
  • Pour, spread, and level concrete using various techniques, such as screeding, floating, and troweling.
  • Apply surface treatments, such as curing compounds or sealants, to enhance the durability and appearance of concrete.
  • Repair and patch damaged or uneven concrete surfaces as needed.
  • Collaborate with other construction team members to coordinate concrete pouring and finishing activities.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and wear appropriate protective gear at all times.
  • Clean and maintain tools and equipment used for concrete finishing.
  • Report any issues, deviations, or concerns to supervisors promptly.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

None required.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:

Must have valid driver's license with clean driving record.

Physical Demands:

Occasionally must stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and climb and balance. Must be able to talk, hear, taste and smell and use hands to finger, handle and feel. Seldom may have to stoop, crouch or crawl. May need to occasionally lift up to 100 lbs. The following are the vision requirements for the job: physical, close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
