Position Description:

The Plumber Senior position is assigned to the Building Mechanical section in OFPM and reports to the Physical Plant Supervisor with the oversight of the Deputy Director.

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Plumber Senior are to repair and service the sewer, water, steam, condensation, natural gas, and fire suppression systems.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Detect and diagnose leaks, stoppages, inadequate supply and faulty operation of water, steam, condensate, natural gas equipment and air lines in the Capitol Complex buildings.
  • Plan, install, repair, replace and maintain copper, steel, galvanized, cast iron, plastic piping systems to maintain hot and cold-water systems, sewage and drainage systems in operational condition and to control the movement of containment of fluids and gases.
  • Rebuild circulating pumps on the heating and cooling systems, domestic water, fire system, sewage lift and storm drain sumps in the Capitol Complex buildings.
  • Serve on a crew of four (4) employees in the following positions: three (3) Plumber Seniors and one (1) General Maintenance and Repair Technician Senior (GMRT).

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires two years of experience as a plumber. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Valid Kansas driver's license. Ability to do heavy physical labor such as lifting and ability to climb ladders and work from scaffolding.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to read, interpret and work from sketches, blueprints and specifications. Skill in the use of tools, materials and equipment used in the plumbing trade. Prefer knowledge and experience in pump operations and repair. Knowledge in the operation and repair of heat exchangers and pressure vessels.
