This position will be staffed in the Urban Freeway Unit. Job duties will include inspection of purchase order contracts, performance-based contracts, fully operated rental agreement and force account work. This includes but is not limited to drainage, guardrail, signs, bridges, roadside, pavement markings & markers, and pavement repairs inspection. Also includes supervising embedded contract Engineering Technicians, oversight and processing of damage claims, inspection during snow and ice abatement, communication with law enforcement and attendance at various meetings. Must have experience using Microsoft Office products including but not limited to Word, Excel, Power Point, along with SharePoint, SDV and NCDOT WIGINS program. Employee will be responsible for entering daily reports, diaries, and TIMS entries.
Employee will inspect or lead co-workers in the following operations: asphalt lay down; stone base, sign placement; grading construction of fill sections; undercut; seeding/mulching; major concrete structures; curb and gutter; milling; drainage; utility construction; erosion control; pavement markings; work zone traffic control; and concrete pavement. Must have working knowledge of state and/or federal rules and regulations to determine compliance.

- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems.
- Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
- Knowledge in understanding, interpreting, and analyzing contracts, plans, standards, and specifications associated with highway construction projects including both roadways and structures.
Additional Expectations:
Employee will be required to maintain effective working relations with other employees and the general public. In addition, establish positive lines of communication between technicians, engineers, and contractors. Employee must have the ability to utilize verbal and nonverbal skills to express non-routine or moderately complex technical and/or program concepts and related facts in a clear, concise, organized, and persuasive manner. Employee will be required to have a close visual acuity to use testing instruments, read plan details, make accurate field measurements and inspect roadway and structure components.
Employee must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle. Employee must have the ability to work at heights over water or traffic and climb on bridge substructures and superstructures. Safety toe shoes are required. Employee must have the ability to traverse slopes, walk on uneven ground and lift 50 lbs. Employee will be required to maintain NCDOT certifications for asphalt roadway paving, concrete testing, Pavement Marking and Traffic Control training, Level I and II Erosion and Sediment Control, and other certifications as required.
Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.

Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
