Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Loads and Environments team. This position will be at our Propulsion Systems Division facility located in Promontory, UT.
Roles and Responsibilities:
As an engineer supporting the Loads and Environments team, the selected candidate will support the analysis needs of Propulsion System programs ranging across manned space programs, commercial launch vehicles, and defense programs. Selected candidate will be expected to support in the development of propulsion element structural loads, development of propulsion element dynamic environments including shock, random vibration, sine vibration, and acoustic environments, support testing efforts of functional components to dynamic environments, and develop data analysis to ensure qualification of flight hardware.
Basic Qualifications:
This position may be filled at either the Structural Engineer or Principal Structural Engineer level, depending on the qualifications below.
Basic Qualifications for a Structural Engineer:
Bachelors degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering with a minimum of 2 years of relevant engineering experience; or a masters degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
Proactive, strong analytical problem solving skills
Excellent time management, organization, interpersonal and communication skills
Able to clearly present technical information to all organizational levels
Basic Qualifications for a Principal Structural Engineer:
Bachelors degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering with a minimum of 5 years of relevant engineering experience; or a masters degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering with minimum of 3 years of relevant engineering experience
Proactive, strong analytical problem solving skills
Excellent time management, organization, interpersonal and communication skills
Able to clearly present technical information to all organizational levels
Project and/or Systems Engineering skills are a plus.
Required Qualifications:
Experience in a least one of the following areas:
Deriving structural loads
Creating FEA models
Modeling structural dynamics (Shock, Vibration, and acoustics)
Dynamic testing of components (shock and vibration)
Performing Modal Surveys
Analyzing time-series data
Computer skills including Matlab, Python, NX, HyperMesh, and NASTRAN
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters or PhD in aerospace or mechanical engineering with emphasis in structures, dynamics, or controls
Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering tools (MBSE)
Experience with solid rocket motors design and analysis
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Additional Requirements:
Successful candidate must be able to pass a background check for the Federal Safe Explosives Act (SEA)
Ability and willingness to travel +10% of the time
Ability to obtain a DoD Secret or higher security clearance

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80A. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
