Position Summary
The Directional Drill Operator/Locator is responsible for operating ditch witch and/or Vermeer drills as well as locate the directional drills path installation of innerduct for underground fiber optic construction.
Job Responsibilities
Place duct and fiber optic cable utilizing directional drilling and additional equipment, including excavators, backhoes, cable blowing and pulling equipment
Assist Foreman in ensuring are completed in a timely manner, meeting customer requirements
Assist with on-site installation of underground fiber optic cables
Operate directional drills and equipment
Pothole existing utilities when needed
Prepare entry and exit pits
Assist tie-ins on conduit
Drive trucks and equipment to job sites
Abide by and follow company policies and procedures
Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience/Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Class A Commercial Driver's License highly preferred
Must have clean driving record and be insurable
2-years of HDD locating experience
2-years of drilling experience
Experience operating construction equipment, including backhoes, front-end loaders, air compressors, and trenchers
Experience operating hydraulic reel trailers (preferred)
Knowledge in F-2, F-5 and Falcon series locating equipment
Ability to operate a Vermeer/Ditch Witch Directional Drill
Ability to locate and steer drill head for drill rig operator
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
