Job Description
Summary
Construction Inspector is a field position responsible for documentation of field construction activities. This position involves interfacing with the Resident Engineer, Construction Manager, and contractor. Job duties include field inspection of Contractor work on the roadway, bridge, transit, transportation, and utility projects. Candidates will prepare and submit Inspectors Daily Reports, prepare engineering calculations and estimates, read and interpret contract documents, and complete other tasks as assigned to facilitate the work. Must have professional presentation skills and above-average verbal and written communication skills. Good organization and time management skills are required. Candidates must be able to read and interpret plans and specifications and determine and document whether or not the work meets the requirements of the construction contract.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work Environments

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and traffic. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; risk of electrical shock and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work may require occasional weekend and/or night work. RequirementsRequirements
Perform inspection of:
1. Traffic control measures, traffic staging, and striping
2. Earth excavation and embankment
3. Erosion control measures
4. Sewers, water main, and utilities
5. Concrete structures
6. PCC and HMA paving operations
7. Prepare Inspectors Daily Reports (IDRs)
Skill Requirements:
1. Inspects work to ensure work meets requirements of plans & specifications
2. Measures completed work for payment
3. Prepares Inspectors Daily Reports, per IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities requirements.
4. Basic computer and MS Office skills
5. Maintains field and office records
6. Performs complex quantity and engineering computations
7. Read and interprets plans and specifications
8. Effectively communicate and work with Contractors, Engineers, and others
9. Hold/maintain current Illinois (or other) Drivers License
Education Requirements:
1. Degreed Engineer from an accredited university, with Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer In-training (EIT) certification, preferred.
2. 0-3 years experience in Construction Management/Construction Engineering Inspection
3. Current IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities certification, or ability to obtain same.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and proportions. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
