ResponsibilitiesWe are seeking an experienced construction industry professional motivated to advance and promote Berkley Alliance Managers leading-edge risk and practice management consultation and education resources, presentation offerings and delivery, and engagement with policyholders, brokers, potential policyholders, subject matter experts, and industry associations with a focus on construction professional and related risks design-construction risks including those emerging from alternative forms of project delivery such as design-build, IPD, and P3. The strategic goal of tthe Assistant Vice President, Director of Construction Professional Risk Management is to advance BCPs value-added risk management products and services, enhancing BCPs reputation in the marketplace as a top tier CPPL insurer, and to improve the risk profile of BCP insureds.
Key functions include but are not limited to:
- Develop and execute, in collaboration with Risk Management Officer and Chief Risk Management Officer of BAM, Executive VP of BCP, Senior Underwriters of BCP, and other BAM executives, strategy, resources, and techniques for creation and implementation of risk management/loss prevention assets, education and delivery methods generally and directly for BCP insureds.
- Communicate effectively with BCP brokers, in general, and coordinate directly with brokers as appropriate with respect to broker relationships with key BCP insureds.
- Collaborate with and offer perspectives to Berkley Design Professional through BAM Risk Management.
- Directly engage with the construction professional industry through involvement and leadership in construction associations and civil/structural professional organizations (the latter in combination with education efforts through Berkley Design Professional)
- Spearhead guidance, advice and training for insureds in implementation of risk assessment, risk mitigation, risk engineering, and contracting/business management strategies, practices, tools and techniques including development and implementation of risk matrix analysis templates for complex projects from construction management and engineering perspectives
- Excellent writing and presentation skills to draft white papers, power point presentations, prepare and conduct public presentations, webinars, workshops and related education activities
- Engage with insurance brokers, industry associations, other construction and design professionals and consultants to seek, prioritize and participate in seminars, conferences and other public presentation opportunities to enhance BCPs reputation.
- Interface with BAM Claims Department to help identify claims trends impacting the construction/design industry, particularly professional and pollution liability
- Familiarity and facility with traditional and alternative design/construction project delivery methods and emerging issues and trends (including D/B/B, CM, D/B, IPD, P3)
- Ongoing reading and research of design/construction industry trade journals and engagement with construction and engineering industry associations
- Spearhead identification of current and emerging issues in construction risk management including technical and business management and proactively develop approaches for education and training to enable BCP clients to mitigate impending and evolving risks.
- Enthusiastic and energized to contribute to the growth and development of Berkley Construction Professional and the overall success of Berkley Alliance Managers
- Bachelors degree in architecture or engineering (preferred) AND
- Masters degree in architecture or engineering OR Juris Doctor (preferred)
- 5 years (minimum) as a practicing design professional (professional licensure [PE] preferred) AND
- 10 years as a design firm-based risk manager (preferred) OR
- 10 years as a practicing and licensed design/construction attorney OR
