Role and Responsibilities Thermal Plastic Welding: Perform welding on thermoplastic materials using heat tools such as hot air guns, extrusion welders, or automated machines to join plastic parts or components. Fabrication and Repairs: Fabricate, modify, or repair plastic parts, pipes, tanks, and containers by welding together thermoplastic materials based on blueprints or specifications. Surface Preparation: Prepare surfaces of thermoplastic materials by cleaning, grinding, or sanding to ensure proper adhesion and a strong weld joint. Quality Control: Inspect completed welds to ensure they meet design specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations. Perform tests as needed to verify the strength and integrity of the welds. Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), while performing welding tasks. Ensure that all work areas are clean and free of hazards. Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and troubleshoot welding equipment and tools, ensuring they are in good working condition. Perform routine maintenance and ensure equipment is calibrated properly. Documentation: Maintain records of welding activities, including material used, time spent, and any special procedures followed. Report any issues or discrepancies to supervisors. Collaboration: Work with engineering and production teams to determine welding requirements and assist in the development of welding procedures and specifications. Training and Development: Stay up to date with new welding techniques, equipment, and industry standards. Participate in training and development programs as necessary. Qualifications and Education Requirements Education: High school diploma or GED required. Additional training or certification in welding or plastic welding is preferred. Certification in plastic welding (e.g., ASME, American Welding Society, or similar certifications) is a plus. Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in thermal plastic welding or a related field. Experience with various types of thermoplastic materials (e.g., PVC, polyethylene) is a plus. Proficient in the use of thermal plastic welding equipment, including hot air welders, extrusion welders, and automated systems. Strong understanding of thermoplastic materials and their welding characteristics. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding specifications. Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain high-quality standards. Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills for equipment maintenance. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of safety protocols and welding standards. Ability to lift heavy materials and work in various industrial environments. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with teams and supervisors. Preferred Skills Certification in a specialty craft Safety certifications (OSHA 30 or equivalent). Experience with industrial machinery, welding, or fabrication. Ability to use advanced tools and technologies specific to the craft or industry. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry heavy welding materials and equipment (up to 50 lbs). Comfortable working in various environments, including high temperatures and potentially confined spaces. Ability to work with welding tools for extended periods, including standing, bending, or kneeling. Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for precise welding. Works primarily in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Exposure to high temperatures, fumes, and noise while operating welding equipment Physical labor may be required, including the ability to lift and move equipment or materials. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times for safety. Flexibility to work extended hours or on weekends as project schedules require. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses/spoggles, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
