Job Summary

The Vice President of Construction Services is a senior executive responsible for building, leading, and scaling the companys construction services vertical serving higher education and K-12 school clients nationwide. This role will establish the strategic direction, operational infrastructure, and growth plan for the construction business, including securing new project opportunities, overseeing projects ranging from $500,000 to $20 million, and creating the internal systems necessary to ensure operational excellence, compliance, and sustainability.

The Vice President will be accountable for designing and implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs), policies, and processes, including regulatory compliance, licensing, bonding, and insurance requirements across target states. This leader will also build and mentor a high-performing team to execute complex construction and renovation projects while achieving financial, quality, and customer satisfaction goals.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Business Development

  • Define and execute the growth strategy for the construction services vertical, including target markets, service offerings, and revenue goals.
  • Lead efforts to identify, pursue, and secure construction projects within higher education and K-12 facilities through public and private bidding, partnerships, and negotiated contracts.
  • Build executive-level relationships with institutional leaders, school districts, design professionals, and construction partners to position the company as a trusted provider.
  • Monitor legislative, funding, and regulatory trends impacting school and university construction opportunities.

Operational Infrastructure & Compliance

  • Design and implement comprehensive SOPs, workflows, and operational procedures for all aspects of construction project delivery.
  • Establish and maintain a compliance framework, including identifying and securing necessary contractor licenses, bonding, insurance, and certifications in each target state and locality.
  • Create, modify, and enhance systems and tools for project controls, safety management, quality assurance, contract administration, and financial oversight.
  • Ensure all construction operations comply with federal, state, and local building codes, safety regulations, environmental requirements, and client-specific standards.

Project & Portfolio Oversight

  • Provide executive oversight of a diverse portfolio of construction and renovation projects, ensuring alignment with quality, safety, schedule, and budget targets.
  • Resolve escalated issues related to project execution, client concerns, vendor performance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure operational effectiveness, financial outcomes, and client satisfaction.

Team Building & Leadership

  • Build the construction services team from the ground up, including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and mentoring project managers, estimators, and support staff.
  • Develop a leadership pipeline to sustain long-term departmental growth and operational excellence.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and safety-focused culture that drives project success and client loyalty.

Financial Management & Risk Mitigation

  • Develop and manage the departments annual budget, ensuring alignment with revenue, profitability, and operational objectives.
  • Establish systems for cost control, cash flow management, contract risk assessment, and insurance claims handling.
  • Oversee vendor and subcontractor relationships to ensure quality, compliance, and favorable contract terms.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field; Masters degree or MBA preferred.
  • 1215+ years of progressive leadership in construction management and strategic development, operational excellence, portfolio management, operations, or sales as well as experience leading large, multi-state construction operations.
  • Proven ability to build and scale a construction business line or division, large scale operation, or enterprise wide initiatives including establishing systems, policies, and operational infrastructure.
  • Experience managing public procurement and bidding processes for K-12 and higher education construction projects.
  • Deep knowledge of licensing, bonding, insurance, and regulatory requirements for construction contractors in multiple U.S. states.
  • Strong financial acumen, contract negotiation skills, and expertise in risk management.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to travel as needed to client sites, regional offices, and industry events.

Work Environment & Travel

This position requires periodic travel to project sites, client meetings, and key market locations, with the ability to navigate active construction zones in accordance with safety standards.
