Summary:
The job of Journeyman – HVAC & Maintenance is done for the purpose/s of providing skilled Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) services with specific responsibility for identifying repair and/or replacement needs including installing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading HVAC and Energy Management Control Systems (EMCS) and equipment in accordance with industry best practices; ensuring all work is done according to design specification state and local building codes, and applicable regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists other personnel and trades as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work projects and activities;
- Coordinates with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently;
- Designs and/or constructs systems and/or projects for the purpose of meeting various maintenance and facility’s needs;
- Inspects facilities, systems and their components for the purpose of ensuring safety and cleanliness and identifying necessary repairs;
- Installs and assembles system component parts, classroom and office equipment and facility components for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe, comfortable and operating condition;
- Maintains tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition;
- Prepares documentation (e.g. written and electronic) for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information;
- Repairs, preserves, and performs preventative maintenance on various HVAC systems, and/or components for the purpose of ensuring that assets are well maintained throughout their life cycle;
- Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items;
- Requests quotations for the purpose of providing cost information, purchasing and securing items;
- Responds to emergency and/or environmental situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety or security concerns and performs repairs as necessary;
- Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions requires the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 30% walking and 60% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes, some hazardous conditions, and in varying atmospheric conditions.
Education and Experience:
- High School graduate or equivalent;
- Job related experience within specialized field is required;
- Targeted job-related education that meets the District’s prerequisite requirements.
- Must possess knowledge of, and the ability to apply, standard HVAC procedures and best practices;
- Minimum of two years training in industrial instrumentation, refrigeration, air conditioning, mechanical technology, electrical technology, building technician, or related technical trade; two years related experience in building controls and maintenance of heating ventilation and air conditioning systems; physical and mechanical aptitude to perform a full range of maintenance tasks or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Expertise:
- Expertise to perform multiple technical tasks.
Required Testing:
- As needed to comply with required licenses/certifications.
Clearances:
- Washington State Patrol and FBI Fingerprint Background Clearance.
Licenses:
- Valid Washington State Driver's License required (must be able to fulfill all traveling requirements of this position, including possessing and maintaining a valid license and automobile insurance, when using a personal vehicle for District business);
Continuing Education/Training:
- Must maintain license/certification required for positions as noted in the job description.
- Sexual Harassment Training (or ability to obtain within 90-days of employment)
- Safety Training (or ability to obtain within 90-days of employment)
- First Aid/CPR Certification (or ability to obtain within 90-days of employment)
