Were seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of embedded software and infrastructure for distributed, real-time systems. This is a hands-on, high-impact role supporting critical defense programs.
What You Will Do
Provide technical leadership in configuring, managing, and developing infrastructure and COTS components in embedded systems
Diagnose and resolve complex system-level issues using industry-standard tools and best practices
Develop, test, and integrate embedded software components (OS, network stacks, bootloaders, etc.)
Contribute to the technical roadmap and participate in design reviews and strategic planning
Automate workflows and pipelines using DevSecOps tools and Agile methodologies
Collaborate across engineering, program management, and cross-functional teams
Produce clear, concise documentation for software processes, integration, and design
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a Bachelors in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of experience working with embedded distributed systems
- Proficiency with real-time OSes (Linux, VxWorks, LynxOS)
- Strong C/C++ development skills; scripting experience in Python or Bash
- Experience with network protocol configuration and switch management
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure code (e.g., kernel modules, thread auditing)
- Skilled in debugging tools, performance profiling, and system integration
- Understanding of security and compliance for embedded systems and software infrastructure
- Ability to obtain and maintain an interim secret U.S. security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Prefer
Active Secret security clearance.
- Familiarity with Patriot Systems and Raytheon engineering processes
- Experience with COTS integration, license management, and vendor interaction
- Knowledge of data structures, OS architecture, and embedded system design
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab, Bamboo, Travis)
- Background in Agile/SCRUM development and DevOps practices

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
