Wastewater Collection Lines Mechanic I

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install and repair wastewater lines.
  • Remove inflow and infiltration with Avanti Grout Injection Process, installs inside drops to channel wastewater flow properly into the wastewater collections system.
  • Install manholes, repair and core manholes, and replace manhole covers.
  • Inspect wastewater lines for breaks and make repairs.
  • Assists contractors with force main condition assessments and line pigging projects.
  • Inspect easements, exposed force mains, and air release valves and perform maintenance needed.
  • Cuts and removes asphalt for line repairs and repairs asphalt upon completion of line work.
  • Performs confined space work to include gravity and air release manholes and wet wells.
  • Rebuild plugs and air release valves.
  • Creates and resolves work orders in the Maximo database, describing work completed, smoke and dye testing, manpower utilized, materials, equipment, and establishes follow-up work orders as needed.
  • Utilizes GIS maps to locate and document work.
  • Performs laser transit for shooting elevations for pipe and manhole installation.
  • Operates heavy equipment, including an excavator, front-end loader, track hoe, bobcat, asphalt roller, etc., and trains other employees on the safe operation of equipment.
  • Distributes door hangers for smoke tests, performs smoke and dye tests to locate additional sources of inflow and infiltration, and maps/documents all test results.
  • Visually inspects the sanitary sewer collection system for inflow and infiltration activities by visually monitoring mains, for flow amounts, and inspecting manholes.
  • Serves as customer liaison for wastewater backups, line repairs, smoke tests, and dye tests.
  • Serves "on call" for emergency response (as needed).

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Position requires a high school diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) to two (2) years of previous experience, vocational/technical training and/or training involving plumbing, piping, and mechanics; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina Driver's License, a South Carolina Commercial Driver's License - Class B, and a Wastewater Collection License - Level D.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Position requires a strong mechanical/technical aptitude to effectively and consistently perform complex troubleshooting and complete appropriate repairs.
  • Computer skills with proficiency in Maximo, Microsoft Outlook, payroll software, and GIS mapping.
  • Certified in Traffic Control.
  • Skilled in oral, written and electronic communication with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and the public.

SALARY RANGE

$44,142 - $68,421
