Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Construction Inspector ? Inside Plant

Position Summary:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Construction Inspector with a focus on inside plant facilities: Vertical, Electrical, Mechanical and Instrumentation. Candidate will have previous water/wastewater plant construction inspection. This role involves on-site inspection and oversight of vertical construction elements and the installation of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation/control (MEI) systems. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting plant commissioning, programming, and startup activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily field inspections of inside plant construction activities to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, codes, and safety standards.
  • Oversee installation of structural and architectural components of vertical structures (buildings, pump stations, control rooms, etc.).
  • WATER/WASTEWATER TREATMENT CONTROL SYSTEMS Be familiar with electro-mechanical control systems for water and wastewater treatment. Inspect construction and installation.
  • Inspect electrical systems, including MCCs (Centralized panel to control all motors), switchgear, conduit runs, grounding, and power distribution.
  • Monitor installation and testing of mechanical equipment, including generators, pumps, motors, shafting, flushing water systems, blowers, piping systems, valves, HVAC, and odor control systems.
  • Evaluate instrumentation and control systems, including PLCs, SCADA, sensors, actuators, and related cabling.
  • Collaborate with the contractor, design team, and owner during system startup, commissioning, and functional testing.
  • Witness and document programming activities, I/O testing, and equipment integration with plant controls.
  • Maintain detailed daily reports, inspection records, non-compliance notices, and progress photographs.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of WWTP process systems and how electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation elements function within them.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams), wiring diagrams, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with vertical construction materials, finishes, and standards relevant to treatment plants.
  • Solid knowledge of NEC, NFPA, and other applicable codes.
  • Understanding of SCADA (sensors/Instrumentation, RTUs (Remote Terminal units) and PLC programming basics allowing WWTP automatic mode; ability to participate in startup troubleshooting is a plus.
  • Knowledge of factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) procedures.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and team coordination skills.
  • Proficient with standard construction and inspection software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office).

Desirable Qualifications:

  • 3-5+ years of experience in WWTP construction inspection or plant operations.
  • Certifications such as NICET, ICC, or OSHA 30.
  • Familiarity with control panel inspection, loop checks, and signal calibration.
  • Experience with commissioning agents, control integrators, or startup contractors.
