Heavy Equipment Mechanic Job Description As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing issues related to diesel engines and various systems such as hydraulics, brakes, transmission, and steering. Your role will include performing preventative maintenance on heavy equipment including dozers, excavators, and heavy haul trucks. You will also be required to perform welding or fabrication tasks as needed, prepare work orders, order parts, and maintain daily logs while fueling equipment. Ensuring a clean and orderly work area and meeting other housekeeping needs is also part of your responsibilities, along with performing additional assignments as required. Responsibilities Diagnose and repair diesel engine issues. Diagnose and repair hydraulic, brake, transmission, and steering systems. Perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment. Execute welding or fabrication tasks on equipment. Prepare work orders and order necessary parts. Fuel equipment and maintain daily logs. Maintain a clean and orderly work area. Perform additional assignments as needed. Essential Skills Minimum of 3 - 5 years experience in the heavy construction industry. Ability to troubleshoot and repair heavy equipment. Experience in pipelaying and construction. Additional Skills & Qualifications Diesel technician or mechanic degree is a plus. Welding experience is a plus. Skills in general labor, equipment check, and crane mechanics. Why Work Here? The role offers overtime hours up to 32 OT. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, Virginia. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.
