Mechanical Estimator
Responsible for supporting the Estimating and Engineering Department in
constructability reviews, cost estimating and scheduling. Most of the
efforts will require interacting with proposal teams on cost estimating
for major design and construction projects in various industries
including commercial, industrial, life sciences, medical and mission
critical. This position requires travel to project jobsite locations
which are often regulated by security protocols. To be allowed entry to
the jobsites at these facilities, the Owner must authorize employee
access. To authorize access, the Owner will check for a clear background
screening and ensure possession of a valid, current drivers license. Due
to this, anyone in this position must have a clean background check and
a valid, current drivers license. Reports to the Chief Estimator or
Department Estimator.
Mechanical Estimator is responsible for the following:
RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS:
Assist proposal team on major projects in all programs and for all
companies
Work with Project Management and Design teams during buyout process
Attend project Charrette and design progress reconciliation conferences
with the Project Management team on projects over \$5MM or as determined
by the Chief or Department Estimator
Develop estimates, budgets, quantity surveys and proposals accurately
and competitively
Cultivate subcontractor and supplier relationships including seeking new
relationships, answering inquiries and reviewing scopes of work
Assist in creating project schedules for bids and in pre-construction
efforts, offering assistance for technical plans, budget, risk
assessments and other work as needed
Attend pre bid conferences, site visits, manage bid day process and
proposal submission details
Build, maintain and improve relationships with facility managers and
construction owners
Review and understand plans and specifications
Review estimate and proposed schedule with Project Managers and the
Project Executive for final decision of an agreed upon schedule
SKILLS, ABILITIES, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelors degree in construction or related engineering field,
Journeyman or Master in Plumbing or HVAC OR 7 years of Mechanical
estimating experience with a Mechanical Contractor
Field experience related to Mechanical installation projects is highly
preferred
Exhibits leadership skills while working as an Estimator
Conceptual estimating experience with a Mechanical Contractor, 3 years
minimum experience
Design Build estimating experience with a Mechanical Contractor, 3 years
minimum experience
Above average skills with digital take-off and estimating software
Complete, accurate and competitive proposal by always having a global
understanding of the project prior to beginning the estimate
Above average proficiency with Microsoft Suite products and scheduling
software
Exhibits high level ability to interpret plans and specifications
Maintain ethics in bidding and in disseminating post bid information
Understanding of direct and indirect costs to projects and exhibits a
high level of understanding of project scopes and pricing
Scheduling preparation of proposals through proper capacity management,
reducing last minute crisis management
Familiar with construction scheduling
Familiar with LEED requirements
Willing to travel for site visits and bid deliveries as needed
Ability to communicate effectively externally and internally
Demonstrates a strong work ethic and a professional attitude towards
colleagues.
Proficient in prioritization skills
Proven initiative, positive attitude, team-oriented, self-motivated and
highly enthusiastic.
Ability to manage changing priorities, meet deadlines and adapt to a
changing busin ss environment.
PHYSICAL DEMAND
Ability to communicate in person, by phone and electronically
Ability to work on the computer for extended hours
This position is approximately 90% sedentary
Ability to travel by air, car or train and remain standing for long
periods of time and navigate through construction sites
Light physical work; ability to lift, file, stoop up to 10 pounds
Could be subject to loud noises and changes in the environment
