ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Traffic Services Division of the Street Transportation Department is responsible for ensuring the safe movement of traffic and pedestrians. Its duties include managing street signs, traffic signals, left-turn arrows, school safety, removing visibility obstructions, overseeing on-street parking, addressing neighborhood cut-throughs, promoting traffic safety, and issuing permits for the use of public right-of-way.

The Street Transportation Department is currently hiring a Streetlighting Project Manager to lead the Streetlight Design Section within the Traffic Services Division. This section is responsible for the mid-block streetlight program, reviewing streetlight designs for Capital Improvement Projects (CIP), managing special lighting projects, and coordinating streetlight installations for new developments.

The Streetlighting Project Manager will oversee the operations of the section, which includes managing both operating and CIP budgets, handling contract procurement and administration, conducting plan and field reviews, designing projects, estimating construction costs, and running the mid-block streetlight program. Additional responsibilities involve reviewing utility and Light Rail permits, resolving issues related to projects, maintaining streetlight design guidelines, and participating in community meetings.

This position reports directly to a Traffic Engineering Supervisor and is expected to operate with a high degree of independence. The Streetlighting Project Manager will receive technical guidance from the supervising engineer of the Streetlight Design Section and will directly supervise two staff members.

  • Proven capability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with employees, business partners, tenants, customers, and representatives from governmental agencies.

SALARY

Pay Range: $69,492.80 to $131,040 annually.

Hiring Range: $69,492.80 to $97,780.80 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four years of responsible experience in urban development, redevelopment, business assistance, capital improvement, design and/or construction projects at a level which required supervision or participation in the planning and programming processes.
  • Bachelor's degree in public or business administration, urban planning, architecture, engineering, traffic engineering, civil engineering, construction management, economics, or a related field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

  • Managing project budgets.
  • Leading projects or initiatives
  • Working with SAP Enterprise software.
  • Contract negotiation and administration.
  • Supervising staff and managing consultants.
  • City codes, standards, and construction practices.
  • Working with professional experts and senior staff.
  • Commercial, government and municipal organizations.
  • Developing consensus around complex issues and situations.
  • Developing scope of work, project award, and procurement processes.
  • Writing business reports, contracts, scope of work, creating presentations, and delivering to management.
